First time at Wilderness Lodge.

First off let me say I totally enjoyed reading your recent trip report. A solo trip is on my list of things to do someday and you put me at ease talking about the plus sides of the magic band.

We will be at WL for the first time the same time it seems you will be there. October 29th to November 4th. I honestly don't even know what room area we are in but it's great to get tips from this thread! We've been staying at POFQ the last 4 years but decided to mix it up this year.

Thanks for the water parade time. Perfect place to sit and relax and eat our stash of candies from the Halloween party.

I have always stayed at the value resorts (All-stars and Pop) and have never stayed at a deluxe one. But that's gonna change over Halloween week. They were offering pass holders rates and I decided to splurge and treat myself.

Going to fly my 71 year old dad in so we can go to the Halloween night party at MK, then food and wine festival at Epcot. Got a woods view room. Is getting a higher floor better? Booked a dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Looking for any tips or pros and cons from anyone who has stayed there.

Have stayed there and loved it. One thing I did not do but found about later and will do next at WDW is wander over to the WLV. If you or your dad are into model trains Walt had a set of scale sized trains in his backyard, the kind that are big enough too ride on. I was told that some of the actual train cars are on display at the Villas. If you are up early before people are swimming in the pool you may see mama ducks and their ducklings swimming in the pool. Asked a CM why they swim in the pool and his response was NO GATORS

I suggest sitting with a cup of coffee near the fireplace in the beautiful lobby in the evenings. Also, the bar adjacent to Artist Point serves excellent appetizers and wines. We love the gift shop and the rocking chairs just outside the lobby, too. Enjoy every minute!

I would recommend asking for an upper floor room on the MK facing side if you care to watch fireworks from your balcony. While the view is obstructed by trees, it is nice to see the bigger ones bursting above those trees. We had a 5th floor room when we stayed at WL and could see the larger fireworks pretty well from our balcony.

We usually have a woods view and I request a room facing the MK (north side) for a truly quiet woods feel. There are some rooms that face the villas that are considered woods view, but they are so close to the walkway to the villas and bus stop, that it's not very tranquil. When you check in ask about openings for the flag family. Weather permitting you can raise the flags on the rooftop of the WL and get a great view. (See my avatar pic)

I think your stay at WL will bring back fond memories of Yellowstone for your dad. Enjoy your stay and be sure to explore all the floors near the main lobby for all the little quiet sitting areas to relax after a long day in the parks.

I love The Wilderness Lodge! I have been a camper since I was a child and I died and went to heaven when I took my first step into it. My favorite part was sitting in the lobby readinig my book and enjoying the atmosphere. I can't wait to stay there in my upcoming vacation. You will love it.

If its you & your father there is another restaurant (signature) at Wilderness Lodge called Artist Point. If you like salmon this is the ultimate place to get it. The atmosphere is relaxed and quite. You can take a nice walk around the resort after dinner. Wilderness Lodge is beautiful at night, all lit up, especially around the pool area. Also have a nice sand area with recliners overlooking the water, just past the pool area. The Mara quick serve restaurant is a good place to grab breakfast or a late night snack, one of the best on property.

It is 99% pros for me. It is an incredibly beautiful resort. Being able to take the boat to MK is a real plus. Artist Point is excellent and Whispering Canyon is fun and very good. Both Territory Lounge and Trout Pass are geat places for cocktails. You can watch the geyser plus the water parade. My only negative is Roaring Forks - it needs a bigger selection. After seeing what you could get at Captain Cook's, I think RF could use an upgrade.
