First Official Splash Mountain Lap Bar Pics

Since there are lap bars now, I wish they could lower the height requirement to 35", but I know that really has nothing to do with it.

Nice pics. As others have said, they really dont look that bad.

Our family is travelling with another family to Disney World this October. My friend's husband is a very big man and Splash Mountain is his favorite ride. His belly is very "pooh sized" and when we went to WDW last fall he just was able to fit in the log.

His belly pushes right against the padding. He is now trying his hardest to lose some weight, but just in case he doesn't ... do you think he will still be able to ride ? I know right now that the lap bar wouldn't budge an inch at his size. I would feel so bad for him if he was unable to ride .

Thanks !

We will have to give the lap bars a couple of days to find out if the cm's make any exceptions as far as the lap bars are concerned. Im guessing that if he fits and the lap bar wont go on him they will still allow him to ride, even if they can just barely get it to click once. It's not a coaster so I really don't see them being insanely strict for larger guests.

Right. And since these lapbars are apparently supposed to keep guests inside the log flume, I highly doubt their prime suspects are larger folks who have enough trouble getting in, let alone getting out in the middle of it all

exactly what I was thinking. I don't think it'll be a huge problem. The main purpose is to keep people from being stupid and getting out.

Sweet now people can't stand up and act like they don't speak English when they get "yelled" at.

Haha exactly! Hey btw thanks for the awesome food thread. It caused my wife and I to make 2 additional reservations along with the other 4 we already had for our October trip

We were stuck on a log for 30 minutes in December because of this. The Cast Members even started yelling (what I presume to be) Spanish, but the two teenagers just laughed and headed the opposite direction. We saw him escorting them out, and he did not look too happy.

Suffice to say, the FastPasses we received to compensate for the delay did not even close to make up for being stuck up in an outdoor area on a cold and windy day. We were on the fence about riding it in the first place, after that we didn't ride again all trip!

I am really glad they're finally doing this! :sohappy:

Also note that the padding in front of the riders have been significantly reduced. That huge "dashboard" pad that used to be right in front of you is gone. So the front-to-back opening has effectively been increased.
It just remains to be seen where the bar comes down to on larger riders.

All I can say is this. I am 6'2" 280lbs. I fit on Space Mountain snug (but you know how much tighter that space is) and I never had any problem with Splash Mountain at all. Now with the lap bars it probably won't change a lot in my opinion and Disney is usually very good at making rides accomodating to bigger people so I am sure it was thought through very well.

I had to laugh though, typical of society huh? People are so dumb that they'll actually exit the ride and this is now something that will prevent morons from standing up or walking out. So now a lap bar has to be added based on the stupidity of the world. But we're getting smarter and progressing as humans right..........:lookaroun

My friend is also 6'2" ... however he is closer to 500 lbs ... As a previous poster said, some of the padding was reduced ... so hopefully this will help him out ... fingers crossed !!

My goodness! I just as well assume no one else is bigger than me at theme parks. That is awfully big. For sure he wouldn't fit on Space Mountain. But I have to ask, does he have trouble getting on the other rides? Even stuff like Snow White and in the seats in the theatres.

Yes, he is a big man. We haven't tried Space Mountain yet as it was down for refurb when we were there last. His hips are actually very small so he was able to ride everything and his belly just kind of gets pushed further to the front .. same with the seats in the theatres.
