First Family

Years ago, before my youngest daughter was born me and my oldest were the "First Family" at DHS which was MGM Studios back at the time. We received a certificate and photo to commemorate the occasion which she has framed in her room.
My youngest has never been able to be a part of this kind of special moment though. She is not one to get jealous about any of this though, she actually gets excited when kids her age are picked and says maybe next time it will be me.
My question is, has any one here been the "First Family" at Magic Kingdom and how did it happen? Were you just the first ones there and if so what time did you arrive? I would love to be able to give her and her sister a new memory and it could be something they can share. We are going back in November and February and I am trying to plan ahead to see if I can make this happen. :)

While we have never been the first family at MK we have been the first family at AK and at Epcot on several occasions. All occurred pretty much the same way so I would think the advice would apply at MK as well. You will want to at the parks early enough to be one of the first people at the turnstiles. Then just simply make small talk with the cast members. If you are lucky you will make small talk with the right cast member. We have never asked to be the first family or even mentioned it for that matter.

Thanks, I will try that. I also have wanted to be the First Family at Epcot to and ride in the Test Track car. That always seemed like fun.

Off topic but related...I didn't know this before our last trip, but Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge has a sort of honorary "First Family" mini-ceremony at dinner. We found this out because we were chosen to be that family.

Buuuuuuuuttttt...

We were there with our then-5-month-old, who was a Crankypants the first 6 days we were there, including this day. We just spent 45 minutes getting her to stop crying, uncontrollably. She just lulled off to a minisleep, and we were thinking "if we can keep her asleep and calm just long enough to get dinner, we'll be OK, we'll be, dot dot dot, OK :D

Then they call us to the front desk, and they make the big to-do for us, announcing our names (and we're whispering our last name and where we're from and trying to add "but please don't...") and they lead the rest of the guests, loudly cheering and applauding us, trying to make us feel special, honored, CHOSEN...

And we're acting like whiny little a-holes, trying to shush people "please, PLEASE let her sleep, you don't understand, we've got to let her, oh, damn it..."

We felt so bad in retrospect, but honestly had we known we were being chosen, we would've felt honored but also would have reluctantly asked them to pick someone else. They probably thought we were in the Witness Protection Program, trying desperately not to call attention to ourselves, and calling even more attention as a result...

Still love that Boma though. :slurp:

Thats a funny story. I hope you got your child back to sleep and were at least able to enjoy your meal.

We have been selected the First Family a couple of times at the Liberty Tree where they take you upstairs and you ring the bell to "open" the restaurant. it is pretty neat especially when they have character dining. You get a commemorative photo with all the characters.
