Just curious, what do you do on your first day at WDW?

We usually get there early, check in, and go to Animal Kingdom...what suggestions do you have?

Every year we take the train down...and we never really know when we will get there (supposed to be around 4 in the afternoon). When we were on time one year, we went to Downtown Disney for a while. One year we were late by a few hours, so we had dinner and relaxed. This year we were 12+ hours late so we went to the resort and then got ready to go the Magic Kingdom in a few hours.

We usually don't arrive until mid to late afternoon. So, we check in, then usually have a character dinner. We find they are fun and help us get into the Disney mood without having to pay for a day in the parks. After dinner we'll explore the resort and spend some time in the pool relaxing. After all, its a vacation and some relaxation is necessary.

Depends on whether or not the whole family is along. If it's a family trip, we generally crash at the hotel pool for a while, then head to Downtown Disney. (My husband is NOT a big park fan, I'm sorry to say.) If it's just me - I make an annual solo trip in August - I head right for the Magic Kingdom!

Heading for the great escape.
If it were up to me we would be straight out to Epcot, but as by the time weve checked in the kids have been on the go for around 17 hours thats a no no. We tend to have a quick splash in the pool, then out for a meal. DTD is usually the port of call on the first evening.

We usually go into one of the parks ,(usually MK) and then go to the Hoop De Doo for dinner. It has become a sort of ritual with us. We do the HDD on our first night on every trip.

We usually do an EPCOT dinner (last time at the steakhouse at Japan- yummy!)- then on to cruising World showcase for a bit, maybe hitting something at Future World (Spaceship Earth is always fun when the lines are mellow at night).

After a 10 hour drive, i head for some dinner and then find the bar next to pool. Soaking and drinking is the best way to get rid of the pent up road rage. :hammer:

We get the earliest flight to Orlando (this is where we met a great CM), he had to go to work that night, then we check in to the Polynesian, get our APP's and head straight to the Magic Kingdom. After the 3 p.m. parade we go back for rest and swim time and then have a nice dinner somewhere, last time it was Chef Mickey. I like to start things off with a bang and really get into the Disney mood. My Plan B is that if it rains we send the kids on the monorail to play in the Contemporary arcade at night after wherever the dinner is.

Hey Disney Prep what night is going to be your first night there?? I usually go and see if there is anything going on that night that may not be happening every other night we are there, such as Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks, Spectromagic, etc. Belle

Meega, nala kwishta!
Ahhh, our first night ritual. We always go strait to MK, and have a PS for Liberty Tree Tavern. We just have to visit with Chip and Dale!

This is one of most loved dinners. It's fun, great food and service. Did I say we loved to see Chip and Dale!

I think it's going to be April 14th. I'm not sure though...

It just depended on arrival time, etc.

In early December 2000, five of us drove straight from New Orleans to Orlando. We drove in shifts, and got into Orlando about 6am to meet friends who drove in from Michigan. We all had a relaxing breakfast, checked in early into our hotel, and then went straight to MGM on our first full official day there.

Driving all night is not something we wanted to repeat, so the following year, we all flew up on Southwest, and got into Orlando about noon. By the time we got settled into the hotel, we decided to go to Epcot for our first day there, since it was open later than the other parks were (in early December 2001)

Its usually quite late when we arrive at the hotel - about 8pm - which in UK time is 1am - so we go to bed and wake up refreshed ready for a full day of Florida the next day.
Our usual place to visit on the first full day is SeaWorld - its so relaxing and gets us into the mood

I would love to be able to go to EPCOT on the first day. Maybe when we don't have preschoolers any more.

We get to the condo -- Old Key West for the next trip -- unpack, watch the Disney channel while someone goes shopping for groceries, go out to eat and then swim (or buy burgers at the pool and do both at the same time). If everyone has enough energy we might go to Downtown Disney.

5 1/2 mos to go.

we usually dont get there until mid-afternoon so we usually first unload our stuff at our room. Then we usually go to downtown disneyand get a nice dinner. If we gave time I like to try and get an hour or two at gatorland. I know most people dont care for it but i love it. Try to get a good nights sleep before our first full day. Almost always go to magic kingdom first, but have gone to epcot first also.
