Firework exploding on World Drive

I was over there to watch/photograph that show last night from outside the park along the path to Boardwalk. They had at least one very large shell (much bigger than shown here) explode very close to the ground instead of at altitude. From where we were standing, it looked like it exploded right on or very near the ground level given how little of the sphere we saw above the trees. It was hard to tell from our vantage point where the center point of the explosion actually was; it could have been within the pyro launch site. We had the same comment that it would scare the daylights out of folks driving up World Drive. I'm guessing pyro teams are doing some heavy investigating to understand if anything could have been done to prevent that before tonights show and make any necessary adjustments.

Edit: I just came across another report that the video posted above is from an incident a few weeks ago so confirming it was not the same thing I saw last night.

The worst motorway pileup in UK history was caused by a firework display next to the M5 in Taunton. Fireworks and roads are a recipe for disaster. They should put a roof over the road to prevent this happening again.

I would imagine the fireworks even in the sky are likely to distract drivers, let alone when they are in the actual road!

Has any one got any info on the Star Wars firework that landed on World Drive recently? There is a video of it on Blog Mickey.

Will this have any effect on the Star Wars firework display?

Maybe those height balloons seen from Coronado were for an alternate launching site as some have speculated. It would allow them to center the fireworks and keep world drive safe from debris like this.
Wouldn't launching them from an area between DHS and CS make them even more off center?

They wouldn't launch them in any proximity within guest areas. Even if they did they would have to close World Drive for almost an hour each time they did and that wouldn't do them any good.

My guess is that they were being launched in strong winds and this was a possible result.

Try riding a motorcycle through it. I see cars pull off to watch on World drive in spite of the signs . Who could resist?

Im almost 100% certain that this was talked about in the original fireworks thread as in a lot of our insiders foresaw this happening knowing what they know about how its set up ect.

IDK why it's online now when the site that shall not be named mentioned that it happened weeks ago and no one was hurt. We haven't seen any changes so maybe it's a non issue?

???? Isn't well document the new launch site is right next to World Drive? IF so not only did they, they now have wdw's main traffic artery going smack dab in between the launch site and the actual theme park.

Here's the video:

So.... that's not acceptable.

Luckily the drivers kept control of their vehicles, although I'm sure they were alarmed and shaken up a bit. But if they had not had a steady hand on the wheel and kept their cool as that shell exploded directly in front of and around their cars, this could have easily caused injuries and/or loss of life.

WDW seems to have narrowly dodged what would have been another injury/death scandal that would have been entirely the fault of the Walt Disney Company and WDW management. I hope George K. appreciates that.
