No. It's no closer to World Drive than the old launch site was.
On a side note, this is also why "Be Our Guest" restaurant is located where it is in MK. It falls within the blocked out area for guest proximity but the restaurant is entirely indoors.

Once again the ineptitude is not surprising. Most of the larger diameter shell launch locations are farther from World Drive than where the old site was.
DHS isn't the only location where fireworks are launched near vehicular traffic. World Drive and Centr Drive are within the minimum radius of the MK launch site.

Disney will have to make some alterations to ensure this doesnt happen again. For inexperienced drivers or ones easily startled, there would have been an instinct to jerk the wheel. My friend whose experiencing severe PTSD would have been devastated if it had hit his car.
Not surprised about the fallout landing in the road, seems obvious that with it being so close that is a possibility.
But I am surprised someone caught the moment on video and got it online. Just goes to show how nothing can happen these days without being seen and recorded.

Be Our Guest is outside of the Wishes fallout zone.
I was going to say, Gaston's fountain is only 90' further from the launch site than BoG and backstage CM traffic is something like 120' closer to the Wishes launch site than even BoG.

Either way, it's all about how the wind is blowing. The old area at DHS could be the backside of the park, or it could have been World Drive. The new site it could be the undeveloped area or it could be World Drive. More of a case of random luck it happened like that.

Perhaps, but any time you launch as many they do for a show this big, there will be some fallout.
It's just a good thing this didn't hit a car, I can just imagine it causing an accident.

I know it seems weird that they moved the launch site all the way across the street, but if it weren't over there and continued with the old site, wouldn't they have to close off the back part of the park for the show. You know, where that whole Star Wars thing is going to be at? I would think that Disney would prefer to keep there guests in that area as long as possible...

Just to add, the particular piece that exploded on the road was a small part of a larger shell called a "shell of shells". It's essentially a bunch of little shells with their own time fuses inside of a larger diameter shell (8") which break 2-3 seconds after the larger shell breaks.

The majority of the Star Wars fireworks are not even fired off from inside the park, they are fired off across World Drive. I would bet it happens more than people know or see/post.

Or they could simply change the mix of shells they use. But that's way too simple a solution...
