I had heard from a friend that was at Disney World that they came home to virginia due to the smoke burning their eyes. Now i was at Disney last year when the fires where right at interstate 4 and i didnt even smell smoke and to the best of my knowledge it was closer than the fires burning now. Has anyone heard anything like this?

It depends on the direction of the wind. I was there in 98 when there was alot of fires burning and we even drove through some on the trip down. I think out of a 10 night stay we could only smell it one day. On the trip home they were still some places burning along I-4. Like I said it totally depends on the wind.

Well I live about 45 min away and we are not getting the smoke at all like we were last week. I have a friend who attends UCF and he says that it is not bad, but we've grown up in FLA so we've grown use to it. I know that we have alot of rain in the forcast this week so we are hoping it will take the fires down to a min. I-75 and I-4 were closed earlier in the week last week but have now re-opened. I would not be too worried about the fires because the worse ones are now at the GA, FL line...

The fires this year have been as bad or worse than they were in 98. There have been as many as 250+/- wild fires burning in Florida at the same time over the past 2 weeks. The question of if it will present a problem depends greatly on you and how it affects you. Some people are considerably more sensitive to smoke. My wife gets a hint of the smell and her lungs close up where as I can be in 20' visibility smoke and be fine. I was there last weekend and it was not bad at all (My wife did not have an issue with it if that tells you anything) but the situation can change quite rapidly if the wind shifts.
