Finally booked!! + Question

We finally got our reservations set (after a couple phone calls) and we are staying at Port Orleans Riverside with waterview (we had standard and than my mom freaked and called to get waterview..I guess it was really important to her LOL). I think it came to about $460 for 4 nights.

My mom went ahead and bought tickets too but since we will be getting there Sunday (but not using tickets til Monday morning)..is there anything "free" (ie ticketless) to do? I've heard places like Boardwalk, Pleasure Island, etc mentioned but didn't know how we get into those. I think we'll do some swimming Sunday night and maybe go to Bahama Breeze to eat but I want to have options. Thanks yall!

Oh one final weird sidenote...we are looking for a Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) and in this funky little town there are none. We know several people that have gotten Yorkies in FL so we are praying that we will find one down there...so if any locals know of good breeders or dogs available, let me know! (I know it's a long shot but you have no idea what a small world this is!)

The best thing to do from POR the first day you get there is to take the boat down to Downtown Disney, eat, and do a little shopping. Depending on what time of day you get there, you can then go back to POR and swim, or swim before you go. You don't have to spend any money to get into Downtown unless you want to buy something. We always go there and spend a screaming fortune the first day.

Oh thank you, that helps! I didn't know about Downtown Disney so now we have at least one thing to run and do the first official day there. I'm not big on souviners so hopefully it won't be too damaging!

Just exploring POR will be a pleasant diversion.

You can also take a look at any of the other resorts.

We love to take the Epcot monorail. It loops around Future World--it will get you really excited for your first "real" day.

In fact, I would do dinner the first night at Chef Mickey's or 'Ohana--both are on the monorail.

It's always fun just to explore the different hotels. One day my roommates and I spent the entire days just exploring the Contemporary, GF, and Polynesian! It was so much fun!

I also highly suggest Downtown Disney. It really gets you excited for what's to come on your vacation!

Have a great time!

I agree with the crowd. Take the boat to DTD. You will have fun just walking around and looking at everything. You can eat at Boatwrights or at DTD. The list of dining options is endless!!

...romance...

I've heard POR is actually quite romantic...so, maybe send the kids away to Downtown Disney or Pleasure Island (I thought they charged during evening hours).

I personally took a big splurge the other month and did those little motor boats. I've lusted/longed to drive those since I was a kid...beyond fun....but it costs $$$.

DTD is cool...lots to see...I think the monorail idea isn't bad at all, I love riding that thing so...its fun doing loops.

Checking out other hotels is cool (like boardwalk area).

There is actually lots of free stuff to do over there (visit Celebration, the town disney built).

I think you're confusing Downtown Disney with Pleasure Island. DTD is free (except what you spend shopping, eating etc.) There is a fee to enter Pleasure Island in the evenings (depending on which pass you have, you may get into PI with your WDW park pass).

Here's some Yorkie help for you:

www.petfinder.com

Petfinder is a comprehensive list of shelters and rescue organizations across the country. I assume you're looking for a pet and not a show dog- just type in your location (or one to which you'd be willing to travel), type of animal, breed, and age, and see what you can find. Petfinder is constantly changing so if you don't see what you're looking for one day, try again the next. Good luck

...

OK, so I did a quick nationwide search
This one's a mix but look at her face- everybody now- AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Thank you for the link Erika :) I have been to that site before (I don't think there is a dog adoption site I havne't been too) but haven't found what I wanted..yet. We are a bit stubborn (daughter and I) in that we know for definite that we want a Yorkie (doesn't have to be show quality..we looked at a pup last week and her mom was a yorkiepoo, dad yorkie) and a puppy (not usually found at shelters). We are just hoping that we find our way to the right pup soon...I have a relentless search going on LOL. Thanks again!

I found that Pleasure Island was free (before a certain time). I would definitely recommend the boats to DTD - can't beat it.

I think they discontinued the free entry before 7pm... Not exactly sure though

Yeah, but when they get out of hand, you can always stuff them in your purse.

 :D

LMAO!!

We have an older patient whose daughter does that. Finally we told her we're not allowed to have dogs in the office (!!!) and now she hates our guts. She wheels her mom into the operatory (WITH the dog) and then huffs outside until the appointment is over.

Can you leave the poor thing home for an hour?

Lilmama, have fun- you'll find that between the hotels and the downtown area, there will be no problem keeping busy. :)

Thank you Erika :) I know I am overstressing...I just want to make sure my mom and daughter have a good time..this is our first real (more than 2 days) family vacation. My childhood was full of them but I can't really afford them for my *baby* girl so I want to make this one good. Keep repeating to self, it'll be okay LOL. Take care :D
