Finally A Imagination Pavilion refurb?

with the theater showing EO closing, one has to wonder of its true successor. This, along with the mysterious 250 million allotted to EPCOT (in August?), and the continued popularity of the dream-finder comics, leads me to believe that this could be the refurb this ride has needed for years. Thoughts?http://www./wp-content/uploads/2015/07/figment-head-800x400.jpg

huh? i totally get the idea that disney prefers sponsored attractions, but there is a influx of funds not publicly allocated, so couldn't this be where that money is going?

Refer to my second point. Knowing modern WDW, the money's probably going to something inane or unnecessary instead of the attractions that desperately need it. Hey, I really want things to change, but I'm being skeptical until I see "This area is being refurbished for your future enjoyment" nailed to the pavilion.

I definitely know where you are coming from, i just hold out hope that its finally going to happen. Disney is finally going to get rid of that ride for something better. The crappy videos of the old ride are better than the current incarnation! even as a young kid i disliked a lot about this ride, especially the skunk scene. I really hope they abandon the skunk scene, or at least randomize what scent it is.

Someday the refurb everyone has been waiting for will come.
A long overdue and anticipated refreshening of the Pavilion as a whole, a return to the imaginative possibilities first touched upon in the original offerings but presented for today's audiences, and hopefully the involvement of some old friends ( and I'm not just talking about Dreamfinder....)
;)

But not anytime soon, as much as I would like to believe otherwise.
Not until the uppers on the West Coast get the message that it's desperately needed and wanted by many.
Also not happening until the proposed concept(s) get their proposed budgets approved..and that will not happen until the purse holders see a justified real need for such a redo.

I want it to happen...I really do, but I am not convinced it will happen anytime soon.

I will say this however-
The success of the ongoing 'Figment' comic series has not gone unnoticed by certain people holding reigns in Burbank and Glendale.
It has spurred a slight awakening out there that yes, these characters and this Pavilion's original offerings meant a LOT to people and perhaps that needs to be readdressed.
There is a faint glimmer of recognition and slight awareness that was not there before..which is encouraging.

It's a start...and it's good they are at least aware, but big money is needed to turn that Pavilion around and nobody wants to dish out the serious cash needed or sees any real reason to justify that expense.

Perhaps some day, that attitude will change.
I sincerely hope so.

I think the largest issue is that I really don't think Disney management really knows which direction to take Epcot in...Is it celebrating world cultures? Should it be IP heavy with more tie-in's to familiar characters? Until they have a real sense of direction, I see this pavillion being largely unchanged.

Does anyone other than a small fanbase even care about Figment? I doubt it. Why do I doubt it? Because I dare you to find anything Figment outside of WDW. It may be possible but very difficult (not counting the internet). If there was a demand for it they would have got on it already.

The building looks sort of cool from the outside, but literally everything from the ride to the theme needs to be redone inside. Inside Out perhaps?

World Showcase should be a world culture tribute and Future World should show off crazy ideas and modern technologies. The problem is it can easily become like a boring class trip. In that case, show has technology can be used for normal life and ways people may not have thought (such as how an iPad can be used for more than just Angry Birds and other little games). Basically, a celebration of technology advances/sciences and a celebration of cultures. It can be done, but not much attention is given to Future World.

Disney clearly doesnt want to spend here in any way, the pixar film festival film thing replacing eo is not exactly inspiring and shows they have no care to put in a real worthwhile show or new attraction. Anyone who thinks is isn't permanent for the foreseeable future is kinda blind. Its a cheap filler one they hope will be popular enough that they can leave it as is for a long time. eo was overdue to go but this can't be all Imagineering has, its the suits not wanting to pay up for anything. Could it lead to a Inside Out attraction for the ride down the road? I suppose but no time soon.

I respectfully disagree here. No, Figment doesn't sell merchandise (and never will) the way Mickey, Buzz, or Elsa does but he has gained more popularity in the last few years. Disney brought back the Orange Bird for the Magic Kingdom despite being shelved for years, yet there was no major internet campaign or boost in demand for this character. Same for Oswald. To the majority of the public he was an extremely obscure figure in Disney's past but in recent years has been brought back and discovered by many (from merchandise to a character greeting). Given Figment's level of cuteness and underground popularity Disney could easily take this route with him as well (especially if they brought the Dreamfinder back with him)

But the ride is just so dreadfully bad. I know it has a little cult following, but still, it's pretty bad. But I suppose to each their own.

No, you are exactly right. The current ride, and the obnoxious version of Figment it contains, are such a poor reflection on a great character. I just wanted to further that he can be salvaged regardless of current status.

Oh, yeah, in that case I agree they can do something with the character, but if they want to push to revitalize parts of Future World, I think it would be better if they went with something instantly recognizable with what is popular today. Not saying abandon the classics at all (I do enjoy the classics a lot) but to me, Figment really isn't a classic.

I hope once they finish the work at AK, they will turn their attention and wallets to Epcot. HS will be in major reno mode but they have proven they can tackle multiple projects at once. Once AK and DisneySprings are finished, I can totally see them making DHS and Epcot their next big focus. Adding Frozen and a new Soarin' will help in the meantime but by 2017 I predict much more work being done at Epcot (no real inside info here, just my prediction).
