Fell in love with WDW, March 2011 Trip Report.

Hi Everyone!
When we began planning our trip to Disney World for the beginning of March, I found this website and started reading the trip reports on here. I really enjoyed reading them and they made me even more anxious for our upcoming trip. So now that we're back from our wonderful trip, I decided to post my own =)

My name is Taryn. My husband, Ken and I live in California with our daughter, Ash. We love all things Disney. Ken and I have been going to Disneyland about 4 times a year since we started dating in 2005. We got engaged there in 2006 and love everything about Disneyland. My first trip to Walt Disney World was in 2008 and my second was in 2009. Both trips we went with pushy/rude family members and they were full of drama. We never got a chance to really take everything in and enjoy ourselves. I liked Disney World but didn't love it like Disneyland. Everything changed this trip. It was our first trip with just my husband, daughter and I. And for the first time, I absolutely fell in love with Disney World! We were able to cherish our time there and really have a blast. It was unquestionably the best vacation I've ever been on. Now, we can't wait to go back and are planning our next trip!

Our trip took place March 2nd-March 9th. We also went to Universal Studios to check out the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Day 1- A sleepy first day spent in the Magic Kingdom

Our flight left home at 7:30pm and arrived in Florida at 5:45am. We were a little nervous abut flying with our little toddler but she did great! She colored and read for part of our flight and then slept for the rest of it. Ken and I barely slept, we were too excited! When we got there, we got our rental car(which was heaven to have) and headed to Disney's All Star Resort. We were in a little daze by the lack of sleep. Once we got to the hotel we decided to have a change in plans. Originally we wanted to get to Magic Kingdom for park opening but then we realized that Ash needed more then 5 hours of sleep and we needed to get a couple. So we unpacked the car and then got Ash's pack n play ready and we all crashed by 7:45.

At 9:45 our alarm was going off and Ken jumped out of bed and got ready. Then he attempted to wake me up and stole my covers so I'd get moving. haha. After we were done changing and getting ready we woke our sleepy little girl up, changed her and slathered her in sun block and then we were off. When we loaded the monorail I had my arm around Ken and one hand on the stroller. Ken kept giving me a weird look and I asked "what"? Then he told me that I had my hand on his butt. Oops, I thought it was his back. I guess the two hour nap didn't do me that much good... We made it to the front gates of the Magic Kingdom by 11:00. Walking down main street, like always was amazing! I can never get over how beautiful the castle is. It is a little déjà vu like walking around the park though. I still get a little turned around here and there and will feel like I'm in Disneyland. The weather was absolutely perfect and stayed that way for the length of our trip. Nothing's better then high 70/low 80 weather, right? I was debating about what I should pack quite a lot before the trip. We'd only been in September together and it's can't.breathe.it's.too.hot weather and I didn't know what to expect for the first week of March. I decided to bring a little bit of everything for Ash and I: jeans, dresses, tank tops, shorts, sweatshirts. Ken made fun of me for bringing dresses because he thought I'd be too cold. However, it ended up being perfect dress weather.

Anyways..I guess I should get back on track. We were so happy to be in Disney World and standing on Main Street. We started contemplating what to do first. We decided to head over to Fantasyland, it was a little busy but Small World's wait wasn't too long so we jumped in line. Ash enjoyed it quite a bit even with her sleepy little self. After IASW we headed over to the Village Haus for lunch, we were starving. We did the dining plan again on this trip. It really is such a great deal especially with how much food Ken eats! I love planning out what restaurants we're going to book prior to our trip. I think WDW has a great selection and eating tons of yummy food is one of the best parts about being on vacation here. Ken ordered a chili dog at Village Haus and Ash and I both had pepperoni pizza. I am very much a picky eater. I'm known to eat off the kids menu often and I don't really enjoy fancy food. After devouring our lunch we watched PhilharMagic. It's very cute and Ash enjoyed it. I think she would've enjoyed it even more if she let us put the glasses on her but we had no such luck.

Our daughter was looking very sleepy so we decided walk around while she was in her stroller hoping that she'd give into her sleepiness. We browsed the shops on main street and made mental notes on what we'd be coming back for later in our trip. Ash decided to not take a nap, she was too focused on everything going on. Who could blame her though? While we were in the candy shop, a cast member gave her a piece of freshly made cotton candy, it was very tasty. We headed to get Ash some Mickey Ears after leaving the candy store and we found the black ones we wanted. We got her name engraved and the cast member gave her some Mickey stickers. We had so many cast members this trip do nice things for Ashlynn. She got pins, stickers galore and lots of interaction from them. I love that they strive to make trips for kids special. After getting Ash's hat we attempted to have have her pick out whatever toy she wanted. She didn't want any stuffed animal or toy for more then a minute before throwing it though. We really wanted her to pick something out on her own so we decided to let her pick something out when she wasn't so tired. When we headed out of the Emporium, the parade was just starting and we walked right up to the front to watch it. The characters were all so interactive with Ashlynn. She waved at some and ignored others. It was really amusing. I'm glad we got to watch it on our first day without even planning on it!

WDW DAY 1: Part two

Following our failed attempt in getting Ash to fall asleep. We headed over to tomorrowland. Got fastpasses for Space and went on the People Mover. I love that attraction. Then we headed to Monsters Inc Laugh Floor. That was a hit for Ash, she absolutely loves that movie. I do too and I think Monsters Inc Laugh floor is very cute. I like that the show changes every time also. I just wish they'd pick Ken as "that guy". Ken and I were itching to ride space with the remodel it recently had. Ken went first while Ash and I got in line to meet Mickey and Minnie who had a little meet n greet area to the right of Space Mountain. Ken got off the ride just in time. Ash was as happy as ever to see Mickey and Minnie and she kept blowing them kisses as we walked away. Our daughter absolutely loves the characters. We took her to Disneyland for the first time when she was a month old and she's been 9 times since. This is probably the reason why she loves them so much. She'll run up and give them huge hugs. After meeting Mickey and Minnie I grabbed my fast pass from the husband and rode Space. It was really awesome. It was darker inside which made it feel a lot quicker and the queue was much nicer then I'd remembered.

After getting of Space, Ken and I talked about the new additions and then headed to the baby center to change Ash. it was getting dark and starting to cool off so it was time for warmer clothes. Ken and I reminisced how the last time we were here we spent a huge amount of our day at the baby center with our three month old Ash. We threw our sweatshirts or peacoat as the case may be on, and headed over to Tony's for dinner. I loved Tony's our last couple trips and it didn't disappoint this time(at least to me). I got the chicken parmesan and Ken got the steak(which he said wasn't as good as he'd remembered). Ash was looking very tired when we sat down to eat. And about five minutes into our dinner she completely fell asleep on the table. Our poor little daughter was exhausted! We felt bad about her lying on the table but we also didn't want to wake her up so we let her be. Everyone kept commenting how adorable she was. A waiter stopped and gave her a castle pin for when she woke up. After our toddler literally fell asleep during dinner we though it was time to call it a night.

We went back to the hotel and Ash feel asleep almost instantly. Ken and I hung out for a while and were asleep by 10. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was on the agenda for tomorrow so we needed to be rested. Hogwarts, here we come!

Day 2: A not so Disney day spent at Universal Studios.

Today was the day I'd really been looking forward to. It was the day we'd be going to Universal Studios to experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I am a Huge Harry Potter fan so the prospect of being able to browse the shops of Hogsmeade and roam the halls of Hogwarts was beyond thrilling. We had also never been to Universal in Florida. This morning I woke up before Ken which never happens. I was happy, energetic and ready to take on the day. Ken kept teasing me(lovingly of course) as to why I don't wake up this excited every morning.

We stopped for breakfast in the dinning hall at All Star Sports and all got Mickey waffles with bacon. After eating, we were on our way and to Universal Studios by 8:30. We lined up in front of the Islands of Adventures front gate and (I) impatiently waited. Once the gates opened, it was apparent that everyone there was going to the same destination, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We briskly made our way to the back of the park and headed straight to Ollivanders. We've heard that the lines could get insane so this was our first stop. While Ash and I were in line Ken headed off in search of a butterbeer. I was in complete awe of this place. Everything is what I had imagined it to be. I love the quaintness and attention to detail throughout Hogsmeade. Ken made it back a few minutes before our group was let in. The butterbeer was extremely tasty. Ash kept getting a little mustache every time she drank some! haha. The shop was so beautifully detailed and the show, excellent. After browsing the shop and over $100 later, we were off to ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

The castle was incredible! We planned on walking thru the queue together and then using their parent switch pass. I'm glad we experienced the full queue instead of going thru the shorter line for single riders/parent switch pass. There was an awesome waiting room for parents waiting with their children while their spouse was on the ride. It was so convenient and they even had Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone playing on the T.V in the room. I rode it first, and was blown away with it! Ken went on next and really liked it too and then I rode it one more time. I loved it even more the second time! They really did a great job. After exiting Hogwarts we browsed thru the shops. They were busy but bearable. Our friend had gone last year and said there were hour long waits to get into the shops. So crazy! I heard a woman complaining to an employee about how busy it was and she said "this is nothing compared to the normal". We went in all the shops, experienced Ollivanders, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, and enjoyed a butter beer, all in under 3 hours...not bad!

After leaving we went straight to Jurassic Park. Which I am thrilled I didn't ride considering the soaking wet people exiting it. Ashlynn fell asleep while we waited for Ken. He somehow managed to only get somewhat wet. We were starving after walking around and decided to get some food around 11:30. The only problem? Nowhere we went was open yet. I would think 11:30 was a common lunch time but apparently not. We pulled out our map and tried restaurant after restaurant. With no luck. We finally found an open place in Seuss Landing. Ash and I got pizza again and Ken got a cheeseburger. After eating we went on all the rides in Seuss Landing, Ash was really fond of One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. Then we headed to Spiderman and Hulk. I really liked Spiderman but Hulk gave me a horrible headache.

We decided it was time to move on and head to Universal Studios. It was completely dead and dreary compared to Islands of Adventure. We rode Rip Rode Rocket and both liked it. It made my head hurt a little more from my previous ride on Hulk. We saw that Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue was starting and decided to check it out. It was a good show and Ash liked dancing during the performances. We walked around the park a little more and I took Ash to the Curious George play area while Ken rode ET. Afterward we realized that we were ready to leave. The beginning of the day started off really exciting at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and then Islands of Adventure was pretty neat. But Universal was pretty lackluster to us.

We left around 4:30 and made a stop by Wal-Mart. I had forgotten my curling iron. Luckily for Ken, he found a rare McFarlane figure. After getting water, a curling iron, the hubby's figure and snacks we headed to Downtown Disney. We browsed our favorite shops and went to Disney's days of Christmas to get a Disney World specific ornament and replace Ash's ornaments that had broke this past Christmas. Our tree decided to topple over one night, breaking several of our Disney ornaments. But more importunately broke the two ornaments Ash had picked out on our annual Disneyland Christmas trips. Every year we get a new ornament and let Ash pick one out. So, of course we had to replace these. And luckily, they still had her Mike and Sully ornament and Snow White. We grabbed a snack at Wetzel's Pretzels and a woman approached us. She said that Ash was adorable and then proceeded to ask where we were from, when I said California she said we must go to Disneyland. We said yes and she said " Oh, well this must be so small to you then, I've heard Disneyland is much larger". We told her it was actually quite a bit smaller and then she told us we'd have to take our daughter on Soarin over California and that she could lap sit! What an insightful woman she was...

Next on our agenda was Beaches and Cream. We had never been there before and really wanted to try it. We got seated really quickly and decided to split a cheeseburger. It was so delicious! Definitely the best burger we've ever had at Disney World or Disneyland. We got the peanut butter sundae for dessert. I am so glad I decided to not order my own. It was so much food, for all three of us! And it was mouth-watering. We walked around the Yacht and Beach Club and then headed back to our room around 10:00.

Tomorrow, Disney's Hollywood Studios and ESPN the Weekend Festivities.

Thank you! We had a great time in WDW! I really think I'm starting to love WDW as much as Disneyland. World of Color is an amazing show! I'm sure you'll love it :) Our next trip is Disneyland too and WDW sometime next year. I can't wait for both!

Thank you, we couldn't believe she fell asleep at the table! It made for a fun picture though, that's cute you have a similar one of your son

Your daughter is adorable! Love the pigtails, I remember when I used to have those too! It's funny how everyone has almost the same pictures. A few of your pictures you took in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter I have the same ones. I'll agree with you on Harry Potter though. I was in complete awe of the place. And honestly spent most of the day there, not a big fan of Universal/IOA.

And I have to ask did you buy a wand? I think its a must when you go there for the first time.

And I'm glad you guys enjoy WDW!! It's such a magical place.

Loving the trip report and pictures. You're daughter is adorable! Your Wizarding World of Harry Potter pics are getting me excited for my trip this fall when i'll get to see it for the first time!

I'm new to this site too. We are new DVC owners and I am getting so much great information on the attractions and restaurants from the members here.

Your report is great and your daughter is a doll.

Thanks for taking the time to post your experiences with pictures to match.

Thank you! :) Harry Potter was definitely the best part about Universal to us too.

Yes, I had to buy a wand! That was the one item I knew I wanted to get beforehand. So glad I did!

WDW Day 3: A sports filled day at Disney's Hollywood Studios

The hubby was looking forward to today the most. We were going to DHS and partaking in ESPN the weekend events. After spending the morning and afternoon there, we were going to a Yankee game in Tampa. We are really big Yankee fans. Well, when my Ken and I started dating he converted me to a Yankee fan... We go to games when they're in CA but we'd never been to a spring training game. We slept in a little late and left the hotel at 8:40. We got to the park 10 minutes after park opening and headed to the stage below the sorcerer's hat. They were going to be filming 'First Take'. Ken grabbed us breakfast while I waited near the stage to keep our spots with Ash. We were really surprised by the lack of crowds, we'd thought the events would be really popular. Once the show started at 10, Ken was star struck by Skip Bayless and Dana Jacobson. It was a good show, even though I didn't know who the athletes they interviewed were!lol. Afterward we went over to meet Buzz and Woody but Ash was really sleepy and cranky so we opted to walk around while she napped.

We went over to the ESPN area that was located next to Rockin' Rollercoaster. There were some football players out and Ken was trying to get autographs but having no luck. So I stepped in and got them for him!. I think it's so funny how much easier it is for a woman to get an autograph. But then again some of the guys can be really aggressive so I think they skip over them because of that. The area was pretty neat. They had basketball courts, fishing, golfing and other activities set up for the players to partake in with the kids. When we were walking around, Ken spotted Bernie Williams. He was seriously being mobbed by a huge crowd while he walked, so I have no idea how I managed to get Ken an autograph. Come to think of it, I think I've gotten almost all of my husbands autographs hanging in his Yankee room. Most of them are from a Yankee/Angels game we went to in 2007. Before the game we were watching batting practice and I got hit in the head by a line drive. It was so crazy and painful. But I ended up being fine and many of the Yankee players came over to check on me. Including my favorite, Derek Jeter. They gave us autographs, bats and gloves. It was scary at the time but after being checked out at the emergency room and being fine, it ended up being a fun story. For the next few weeks I had an insane black eye though. So anyways, to get back on track... Getting Yankee autographs are a big thing to us. Our main goal for ESPN the weekends was to meet Yankee players. We unfortunately didn't have any luck besides Bernie though. We saw that there were a couple people getting autographs on their white Mickey Vinylmation dolls and thought that was a really good idea and decided to be on the look out for one.
