Favorite Under-Rated Disney Attractions

So I've been arguing with a bunch of people on these forums about certain under-rated attractions at Disney World and I thought... I'm pretty sure everybody has a favorite under-rated attraction at EPCOT.

Continuing the "unpopular opinions" thread with a different view, what are your favorite under-rated Disney attractions?? By under-rated, I mean simply the attractions that usually receive hate, or barely a positive review (at least from these forums).

NOTE: Please, don't critique other people's opinions. That seems to be a bad habit (including myself) on these forums. For instance... If someone says "I don't see why so-and-so gets so much hate," and then you would choose to type up, "because this attraction was poorly made and blah blah blah.." Nah, don't do that. Opinions are opinions.

Choose up to as many as you'd like. I could be wrong on some attractions. I'm only going off of what is complained about the most on these forums. Whether they're loved a lot or not, these attractions certainly do get complained about a good bit. Also remember, these under-rated rides are completely forum-based. Meaning under-rated on this site, not in the general public.

Also keep in mind, under-rated could also go into the list of being rarely ever talked about, or not very popular from a normal guest's perspective.

I had a list of attractions that I would consider over-rated, but I think people might have been becoming confused and thought they had to choose form the list. An under-rated attraction is whatever you one is. Whether it's complaints that lower the population of the attractions, or overlooked attractions, under-maintained (such as GMR).. Just feel free to express your opinions and let's just hope nobody attacks one another. :p

My personal favs...

Mainly listed as under-rated in my opinion because of all the complaints it gets from a lot of users on here. Not the nostalgia-loving users, of course. Many people consider it boring, or stupid. But I love the humor, I love the characters! And for it being a classic, it's in much better condition than a majority of all other classic attractions (Tiki Room, CoP, ect.). Heck, this is in better condition than some popular attractions. I've always thought that it was in rough shape until I actually compared it to some others. There's a lot of love in this show, and I'm surprised this is the one that looks better than a majority of other classic attractions. With the only exception being audio-levels at times. I love this show, it's funny, entertaining, and one of my all time favorites.

Stitch's Great Escape

Hear me out, hear me out. People over-use the term "horrible" or "really bad" on this attraction. By all means, it's certainly not the best or one of my favorites, but it honestly cannot be considered the worst at all. The first major problem that starts complaints on this ride is the attraction it replaced. Alien Encounter, beloved by everyone, and shut down because it was too scary for kids. Re-opening a newer, tame version with Stitch, everyone immediately was disappointed with the attraction even before it came out, basically. It got a bad reputation for replacing a headliner attraction. Now, I'm not saying it's as good as Alien Encounter by any means. It's STILL not as bad as everyone says though. The AAs are all in WONDERFUL shape. The theming is great, the music is great, honestly even the storyline (though it adds a lot of plot holes leading to the movie) is pretty good. The effects are good within the ride. The problems with the ride? I'd have to say not upgrading the shoulder harnesses so they don't hurt your shoulders coming down, and the chili dog breath. Honestly, that's it. It's a fine attraction that was shut down by the Alien lovers, or the ones that just go along with everyone else's opinions. Now I'm sure some people would STILL hate this ride no matter what it replaced, but for my personal perspective, it's not bad. I've realized that I have actually ridden this ride every single time I've been to MK. And if nobody else wants to ride it, more enjoyment for me!

Ellen's Energy Adventure

So. Many. Complaints. About a funny, unique, entertaining ride. (my opinion!) I think this is also an attraction that got hate for the ride it replaced. The original Universe of Energy, while in my opinion, seemed to be very boring, had wonderful unique effects throughout the ride, including the pre-show. When it re-opened as Ellen's Energy adventure, all of the effects were toned down a good bit.... But... I think the storyline is a LOT more interesting and entertaining than the original. Honestly, the two are apples and oranges, appealing to two totally different groups of audiences. I'm just within that audience. Now this attraction is also considered pretty outdated, which, I guess is understandable. With the old telephone Ellen used, even Ellen's appearance in general. Bill Nye himself seems outdated. The Jeapordy game show, well, I saw that it was still airing yesterday on TV and it basically looks exactly the same. But there's hundreds of puns and jokes throughout this attraction with Ellen. Sure, it's 40 minutes long, but honestly, this is probably the best thing you can get if you're going to make a 40 minute ride! Would it still be considered outdated if they just re-filmed the whole ride with updated props and the current versions of the actors? I don't think so! The script for this ride is actually very, very good! Right when the pre-show starts! "Helloooo and welcome to the Universe of Energy.. How are yah? -cough cough- ...no need to answer." My dad bursts out laughing every time he hears that! :) Also the reason why I believe it never has a wait time, is it can take in 1,000 guests PER RIDE. So honestly, a good bit of people actually come to this ride if they were to only take up 2 cars! That's a lot of people. Many people on the forums also consider it boring or a "nap time" and that's fine. But how many times have you ridden this attraction? I personally couldn't believe that the very first time you rode Ellen's ride, you weren't laughing at some of the puns. Unless you're just not the comedic-attraction kind of person. I do think that this is an attraction that in many cases is only worth a 1-trip to. But, it's still very entertaining and fun for those people that do enjoy it for the very first time. Also, there are still a lot of people who enjoy Ellen, and jeapordy (i think). I don't know, I never understood why it got so much hate. I love this ride to death, it's my all time favorite ride at EPCOT, and I would love it if they re-filmed it! :)

..and on that note.. I'm proud of Disney for being very creative. What other company can think of creating a 40 minute ride, with the themes of Ellen Degeneres, Billy Nye the Science Guy, Dinosaurs, the Jeapordy game show, AND being a lesson about energy, all within ONE ATTRACTION? That's CRAZY! :)

Flights of Wonder

AnimalKingdom061.jpg

Probably the most over-looked show ever to exist in any Disney park.. Flights of Wonder, located in Animal Kingdom, is basically a bird show. That's it. It's not memorable, nobody talks about it, and if people know of it they forget about it! Heck, I can't even remember anything about this show! I've seen it 2 or 3 times out of all years I've been.... But what I do remember is that it was entertaining, and I actually enjoyed it. I don't remember why, I have no clue! But I remember loving this show, yet I completely forget about it when I go to the park! It's one of those shows, that's very well put together, but you don't notice it's there, and you forget about it as soon as you leave the show. I really don't know whats up with this, I just remember really enjoying it.

MuppetVision is one of my favorites.

I like the country films in WS - especially France - and wish every pavilion had one.

In the context of Dinoland USA, Triceratops Spin doesn't bother me at all - it's something for young kids that fits the backstory (whether you love or hate the backstory itself). If there were a spinner in Africa or Asia, I'd hate it.

Well I think this depends on what is seen as underrated. I don't necessarily think complaints about a pretty popular attraction makes it underrated. I personally think of underrated as generally beloved by all if you bring it up but doesn't get much attention (like TTA or CoP, which I love) unless someone does bring it up.

Well, you have a lot of my favorites on there. Not sure what that says about me. But, I’ll just list out a few. Probably missing some.

Country Bears- Favorite Show in all WDW
TTA- Not sure if I can honestly rank it as my favorite, but it is the one I ride most frequently
Swiss Family Treehouse - Still love the movie and the walkthrough. It’s a shame people don’t take the time for it anymore
TSI- Don’t get over there as much as I should. But I do love it.
Spaceship Earth- Not sure if its underappreciated, but I still love it
Ellen- I’m from the 90’s so I enjoy it
Reflections of China- Don’t know…I’m a sucker for that one
Muppetvision- Love it. Pure Henson genius.

I’d also add Living with the Land, which gets respect here but is mostly avoided by your NPG category.

Our favorite overlooked attractions are:

Magic Kingdom:
Hall of Presidents
Country Bear Jamboree
Tiki Room

Studios:
Muppet Vision
Beauty and the Beast

Animal Kingdom:
It's a Bug's Life
Flights of Wonder

EPCOT:
American Adventure
Spaceship Earth

People tend to not like or skip these attractions because they are not the thrill rides which seem to be the "must do's" for many of the park guests,

My daughter and I absolutely love Mickey's Philhar Magic.....not sure it is completely underrated, but I don't ever hear about or see people putting on their must do list, but for the two of us, we could watch it over and over. I have to hold her back so that she doesn't grab the person's head in front of her while reaching for the jewels and such that float out in front of her!

It's whatever you consider to be "under rated," everyone has their own opinion on what an under-rated attraction is.

Yes it does depend on how people view a ride as being under-rated. The way I'm viewing them is: Lots of complaints lowering what the attraction is actually worth.. and, just like you said. :)

I really like Ellen's Energy Adventure, but it has probably run it's course. The tech, which was groundbreaking in the 80s, is now somewhat dated, and a pavilion (and PARK!) that prides itself on the display and reporting of innovation is sorely lagging behind. Attractions based on good, solid ideas often last too long, regardless of their dated technology - i think this is probably the case with EEA (budget, beancounting and bonuses, notwithstanding). Plus, I don't know that the current ADD generation can get behind this rather protracted, but highly detailed and innovative ride. Verdict? UNDERRATED!

These posts are what I'm trying to avoid. How about just some positive posts and opinions about why you agree with somebody else, or why you like the attraction you choose? No complaints, no arguing..

...I call this.. The "wdwmagic" challenge. :D If you disagree with somebody else, just keep it to yourself. This thread is basically unpopular opinions. Not, "your unpopular opinion should be dealt with."

While I agree with the OP that Flights of Wonder is overlooked, I think it is memorable to many. I really like and look forward to seeing it. Sure, the shtick could use an update, but I understand that it's not simple to retrain the birds used in it. I disagree with the OP that "It's just a bird show" as it lives up to its premise, IMHO, of not being just a bird show rather well.

Treehouse - such a perfect attraction. It blurs the line between scenery and attraction. It puts the adventure in Adventureland, adds the necessary personal exploration and expedition to a land devoted to the unknown exotic.

Mad Tea Party - a simple ride that can be found anywhere. Disney made it their own, gave it a unique spin.

Voyage of the Little Mermaid - still easily the best Little Mermaid attraction on property.

Impressions de France - it is not a travel video. It is a visual poem. Capturing the essence of a country in melody and image is so much more artistic than having a celebrity tell you about it. Saint-Saens beats Martin Short.

Country Bear Jamboree... I like the old country type sounds, the kitzy jokes, and the talking heads.
Enchanted Tiki Room... Colorful, musical, animatronics, an original from the early days.
Swiss Family tree house...Still like viewing the various levels despite the long climb. Remembrance of the film.
Tom Sawyers Island... A quiet relief from the crowds and business of the rest of the park.
Maelstrom... Vikings, trolls, amidst a story. And a backwards spin in a boat.
