I just saw Phantom of the Opera live a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome. Some of my favorite music is in Phantom of the Opera. I've also seen Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, The King and I, and Chorus Line on stage (plus the ones we did in high school). I think my favorite is Les Miserables, but I do like some of the music in Phantom better. Miss Saigon was also very good. I've never seen Lion King or Beauty and the Beast on stage.

What musicals have you seen on stage, and what are your favorites?

EDIT: also you can include your favorite musicals that are on film

My favorite are:

-Joseph and the Amazing, Technicolour Dreamcoat
-Beauty and the Beast
-The Phantom of the Opera
-Bye Bye Birdie (I was in it in junior high, and holds fond memories:lol: )
-Once on This Island (See above)
-Evita, but moreso the music than the actual plot

:sohappy:

Hi fellow musical lover!
Sady, my exposure to musicals has been mostly through film, but I did see "The Music Man" on Broadway starring Eric McCormack. It was amazing! The film version, starring Robert Preston and Shirley Jones, is probably my favorite musical film. I've watched it more times than I can count!
I'm going to see "The Lion King" here in Philadelphia on June 20th.
I'm really looking forward to it.
I didn't get to see "The Producers" on Broadway, but just this past Sunday I watched the film version. I loved it! It is one of my new favorites!
Thanks for asking!

Hello Uponastar. Some of the movie musicals are done really well to so I edited my post to include movies. I haven't seen the music man in a long time, but I remember it was really good. I think The Lion King came to Lansing not too long ago, but I didn't get to go. Tell us how it is when you get back. :)

I also actually liked The Phantom of the Opera movie. I know a lot of people have different opinions about the actors they chose, but I thought it was done really well. They probably should've picked someone who had a singing background to play the phantom, but I didn't think Gerard Butler did bad.

Having never seen the stage version of Phantom (One of a very few, I know!) I didn't know what to expect of the film, but I really enjoyed it!

By the way, my name is Dot! ;)

Nice to meet you Dot, I'm Steve. I remember seeing you in the prom thread (which I haven't posted in awhile), but we never introduced ourselves.

I saw Lion King recently and it was very good.

And I am hoping to see Wicked this year
Wicked is coming to Chicago in October, but I don't think I'm going to be able to make it. It looks good though.

By the way, in case anyone was wondering, I saw Phantom, Miss Saigon, and Les Miserables, all at Miller Auditorium, which is the theatre at Western Michigan University.

The only musical that I've ever seen and really enjoyed was Rent. I worked on Bye Bye Birdie and Fiddler on the Roof with my school and to be honest, I didnt enjoy either show. It could just be that I saw them soooo many times during rehearsals though.

Seen far too many to list and been in quite a few too.

The original Starlight Express in London is a huge favourite. Not the sawn off version that is now touring.

Guys and Dolls is great fun to both watch and be in - I've played Nicely Nicely and Benny Southstreet.

Snoopy the Musical - huge fun. I played Charlie Brown.

Barnum - saw Crawford in this and loved it. Have also had the opportunity to play the role (that's me in the Avatar)

Nunsense - another show that proves you don't need a huge set and budget to be entertaining.

I could go on....

Cats

Les Miserables

Annie

Grease

My Fair Lady

Mary Poppins (2004 in Bristol, before it went to London)

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

favourite - Grease (but the film, not the show, it's much better!)

Seussical is my all-time favorite stage musical. I saw it in Orlando a few years ago.

The Sound of Music is a classic that I have to include. I like the stage version much better than the film version, howeever. I was Friedrich in a stage prodution a long time ago.

As for film, Moulin Rouge is EXCELLENT.

EDIT: I've never seen Pippin, but I've heard wonderful things about it.
