FastPass+ Chaos at MK today

Don't get me wrong, we love to plan as well. But it really feels like more of a chore now with MM+/FP+. What I loved about the old way we planned, was in the end, none of it really mattered and if we wanted to change things we could, now there isn't really any wiggle room. (unless you are very lucky I guess) I think most people here like to plan, just not to the miniscule detail that is now required.
This new system (now old) just doesn't work for me. I always like to go with the flow. My daughter, however; loves to plan.....she does the planning for our trips together.

The system goes down frequently. This was hardly a catastrophic event that's never happened before now. The entire MyMagic+ system is overwhelmed at least twice a week.

For that matter, try logging into My Disney Experience or My Disney Photopass in the evening; you'll be lucky if the web pages load.

Was attempting to book a grand villa for runDisney as we want the medals and some friends who usually run Ironman also want the medals, last night but DVCmember kept flipping to the blank [error] page, finally got it done but will need to finish over phone as I finally just registered myself. And someone thinks this is acceptable performance for a modern web facing system!!!!

Was at Animal Kingdom on Saturday and the Castmembers said there's been issues with Annual Passholder's FP+...none of mine worked that day, the Mickey head would just turn blue and they would waive me forward. :/

The AP system has been the source of a lot of trouble with FP+ it never seems to have been fully integrated into the 'new' system.

Believe me, I'm, no fan of the new system at all. I used it in 2013, had no malfunctions. I just hated the forced planning. The planning I used to do, basically, was list the dates of my trip, pick a park for that date, pick an ADR, and then went on my trip. While there, if we decided to do Epcot instead of MK, no issues. We'd go to Epcot. I'd cancel the ADR for, say Crystal Palace (no issues), and look for one in Epcot (say Biergarten). If Biergarten was not available, then we'd select a second choice. Never an issue. Today? You wouldn't be able to do that. Going on a whim, not following a detailed plan is out the window. If one day we decided to go to DAK instead of Epcot, and have an ADR in Epcot, you have to make that choice the day before, or else you are now charged for the ADR. You then have to hope you can get online, and never mind that, hope you can change out your FP choices to DAK, and have availability.

But hey, Disney is a business, Disney rules, if you don't like it don't go. and Universal sucks!!!!!

I admit, we worked the old FP system. We'd be there at rope drop, hit the big attractions and pick up morning FPs for the others. We'd do a large chunk of the Magic Kingdom before 1pm and then relax by the pool for a few hours before hitting a park for the evening. We weren't likely to get good FPs for that evening time but that was ok. We still found things to do with only minor waits. It was a good day. As an AP holder, I felt I was getting decent value for my pass. I wouldn't say "Great" or even "Good", but it was ok. Especially since I booked at least two trips with it, so I got about 20-25 days like this one. Good times.

But now? Not so much. We get our 3 FPs in advance. With the tier we can't get 3 quality attractions. So we're there at rope drop and get 1 big attraction in the morning, and the lines are already growing. We wait for a big attraction and use our FP for another. At this point it's mid-morning and the crowds are insane. Even attractions that were once walk-ons or short waits are packed. We use our other FPs and start looking for something, anything, that's "doable" without a lengthy wait. Good luck. When that crowded, the parks are just not that enjoyable to me, so we leave to grab lunch and hit the pool. When we return at night, it's the same story - lines everywhere. Very few attractions can be had for less than a 40 minute wait.

At the end of the day I add up the attractions I did versus the money I spent for the AP and think, "What the heck?" - and THEN you get into the problems I've had with MM+, problems on EVERY SINGLE TRIP I've taken since they started "testing" it, all the time spent in line trying to fix the problems. Ugh. :(

I posted this in another thread but it's relevant here. The following Fastpasses are available tomorrow (one day in advance) at the Magic Kingdom: all of them.

Space, Splash, and Thunder are all available too (and at various times throughout the day). I selected those three because they're generally perceived to be the most difficult FP+s to get.

Slow time of the year right? Summer, yea... that isn't happening. Busier times, again, not happening.

You keep defending a failed product. Why? What incentive do you have?

I don't defend the failed product's failures. Lost Fastpasses, system crashes, inability to function as advertised, etc. are all unacceptable. I just object to the all-in criticism based on strawmen: Namely; misleading people into thinking that the only way to get on any ride without waiting four hours is to plan you day down to the second two months in advance.

How does a FF+ selection for tomorrow change the fact that last summer neither 7dmt or Anna were available a month out? We all get you don't HAVE to plan that far out. But if you think I'm going to take my chances with my now $1700 tickets for our trip this summer, you are nuts. So what choice do I have? I either plan the max time out or roll the dice. Seems like a pretty easy choice.

When our kids were small, we used to wake them up early in the morning and say, "What park do you want to do today?" Then we'd hustle to be at that park at opening. That flexibility is no longer possible if you want to do multiple "e-ticket" attractions. This is a FACT.

Yes, you can still get FP for SOME rides a few days in advance but for a party of 4, to get the attractions and times you want, I would very strongly recommend getting your FPs at 60 days.

And some of you might like planning that far out, but I don't. :(

And YOU keep looking for problems in something that's not actually the worst thing ever. It's a problem now that your favorite attractions aren't the 3 most popular in the park? Seems silly.
