Fast Pass Rework

I distinctly remember over 60 minute waits for Peter Pan before FastPass came along. It was always the longest line in Fantasyland.

Right...on busy days. On 'moderate'/'non crowded' days it was usually around 30-45 tops. Now its almost always 55-75. And what is better- a fast moving 60 minute line, or a barely moving- stop and go- watch 500 people cut you- 60 minute line?

60 minutes is 60 minutes.

60 minutes is 60 minutes.
exactly. I don't understand this complaint. If the line is slow moving, I get to enjoy the theming more. If it's fast moving, I have the illusion that I'm moving faster even though I still wait the same amount of time. So whereas before I could have the pleasure of moving through fast moving queues for ToT and RnRC waiting probably 45 minutes for the former and 60 for the latter, now I can wait 45 minutes for ToT (but move slower) and then get on RnRC with my Fastpass in about 10 minutes. Regardless of how slow or fast the lines went, I used to wait 105 minutes to ride both and now it takes 55 minutes. Do the FP haters seriously want that 50 minutes in line back? By all means, don't use FP if you have a problem with it or boycott all FP attractions. I'll be more than happy to go on twice as many rides as you.

People will complain about anything.

I can understand complaints about FP, but I don't agree with any of them. Without FP, I probably would not have been on Peter Pan in nearly a decade. I don't think it's worth a wait and with FP, I don't have one. Also with FP, we are able to ride the big attractions MANY more times than we would be able to without the program. I can remember getting to ride Space Mountain once, MAYBE twice a trip before FP. And now we get to it 5 or more times per trip.

Also FP allows us to spend more time at other minor attractions or simply relaxing in the park. I have never really had anything bad to say about FP.

Kids

I think something that the FP haters don't take into account is kids. There's no way my 20 month old son could handle being in line for over 30-40 minutes foor Winnie the Pooh or Peter pan. He and alot of other young kids would miss out on these attrations if not for FP!

Fast pass, in one word is fantastic.

I remember our first trip in '97 and we regularly waited over an hour for the rides. Splash mountain was a 90min wait, missed the 3.00 parade in MK and cost us about 3 bottles of water because of the immense heat.

But it was our 1st time in WDW and was still worth it!!!

If you don't want people "cutting" you, then get a fastpass!
I just returned on Sat and FP rules were not inforced like they should. I noticed serveral times that people would walk up to FP enterance without FP and act like they didn't know that the entrance was for FP only. Most of the times I saw this they were allowed in! That really made me mad because during our small wait time they would laugh about not having one!

I don't see how that can happen because near the loading for the ride they always collect fast pass tickets. I doubt they'd just let folks walk right on through. Not saying it probably HASN'T happened but I dont see it being that likely.

Keep in mind Disney parks survived for 45 years without Fastpass. I don't think removing it would be the end of the world.

The only time I have seen a person allowed on a ride with out a fastpass was the day I was waiting in like at Splash Mountain with my daughter. We got right up to the point in the line where the guy takes the fasspasses and he had just stoped the line to let some stand by riders through. So I handed my 7 year old her fastpass thinking that at this point it was safe to let her hold hers. I was wrong. She somehow lost it. She must have droped it over the railing or something because it was no where to be found. The guy was nice and let her on anyway though.

Very very true. As early as I can remember going to Disney, I remember standing in line, And it was always not that bad. Fastpass is not perfect and could use some major improvements/changes I think. I dont think they need to get rid of it, just improve it.

Cell Phone Fastpasses

Searching the 'US Patent' number on the back of the fastpass turned up something kind of interesting. The original patent shows stick figures moving through a hypothetical fastpass and standby queue. A new (as of May 16th, 2006) patent expands on the delivery method and allows guests to obtain fastpasses via their cell phone. A barcode is sent to the phone, which is then scanned at the fastpass return. This kind of lends support to the idea that the bar code on the new fastpass may be eventually used to authenticate the fastpass as well as provide a wealth of statistical information. Imagine: You use your park ticket to get a fastpass, you then use your room key to make a purchase, and you return x minute late. Disney has the demographics of your party, what you did while not in line, how far away you went from the attraction, etc - priceless!

Besides a lot of cast members never look at the date, I know I never did, and the used tickets end up in the trash at the end of the night.
