FAO Schwartz Gone!

We went to Florida in August/September and decided to hit I-Drive one day and visit FAO Schwartz Toy Shop. When we got there the Store was closed down and completely empty!

Does anyone know how long ago this happened and why?

I'm not sure why this happened, but the one in NYC went out of business too if I remember correctly.

it was funny really, getting off the IRide, kids all excited, but as with old mother hubbard, the cupboards were bare...

Had to console ourselves in Johnny Rockets instead with a Strawberry Milkshake

We also went to Train-World, but that wasn't very good to be honest..

the one in downtown chicago is gone to, has been for about 2 years or so.they still have afew stores I believe, and they have 'stores' inside bergners, carsons, and some other dept stores.

fao only has 2 stores now one in ny and one in vegas. they've been closing all their stores because they can't compete with walmart, target and all those other stores who sells toys cheaper. fao is really a rip off i went in there when they were trying to seel everything and it was still expensive

If you're gonna get ripped off for toys while in Orlando, at least do it in Once Upon a Toy

FAO has been closed for about a year now. The point is going to pices! Three stores just closed the other day

Walmart stores are putting everyone but target out of buisness... even kmart is going away.... (arn't they gone by not..) as long as target it around.. i can be happy...

(Oh and anyone remember the walmart episode on southpark...... It distroys local buisnesses to thrive..... well... i distroys local and famous national buisness to thrive, blame the supercenters..)

I hate to be a stickler...:lol: but its "FAO Schwarz" no "t"

Anyway... the talking tree at the store they used to have here in Oakbrook, IL , always kinda creeped me out as a kid. :lol:

And I do miss the old Michigan Ave store here in Chicago... it was always neat just to go in an look. 4 or 5 floors of nothing but toys... *sigh*

The one in Las Vegas was a disappointment. I had never been to one so I was looking forward to it. The Toys 'R' Us here is nicer and had just as good a selection. The one in Las Vegas just moved to a new location so maybe it'll better but if they were all like the one we were at no wonder they went out of business.

My favorite thing listed there so far is the "MORPHIS ESP MOTION SIMULATOR" for just a mere $300,000. And remember, it's recommended for ages 5 and up...
