Fantasyland Expansion Photos (just a few quickies)

There is a small pet cemetery on the side of the hill on your left as you exit HM. I can't remember all of the the characters represented there, but if you look up and to the left, in the back, you will see a tombstone shaped like Mr. Toad. It is a nod to those who mourned the loss of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride to make way for the Winnie the Pooh ride. I know there are lots of places on Disney board sites where you can get more info about it than I can give. I do hope the pet cemetery stays. I love those little hidden details!

Pet cemetary is supposed to be safe, so I would not worry too much.

As it stands, I agree.

However, I think we need to wait to see the finished product. Per the renderings and model, there should be a good bit more fabric bunting and coverings that make it look more like a circus that has come to town.

This would be in the same way the Dumbo Circus tent was first a metal form, then painted, and then covered in order to make that permanent building look like a circus tent.

I am jumping the gun a little. Probably should let the place open. Ha. Love how the old birthdayland tents actually look like tents with the next gen skin applied.

Wow GREAT update! Very interesting perspectives...really gives you an idea of what the guest experience will be. Its interesting how the addition of trees changes the atmosphere so much. I'm assuming there'll be more foliage to come too?

Wow it's great to see it at eye level, it seems like it will be a very nice area of the park when it's open

Great to see so much progress! Am I the only one underwhelmed by the budget standing seam roof connecting to Dumbo's big top?

No, it has been bothering me since the beginning. It looks too metal to me. Im hoping there is some more covering going over it to give it a more "cloth tent" look, but due to the fact that they painted them , Im assuming not.

Hopefully with the next set of aerial pics the area around the Haunted Mansion will be included. It is tough to judge perspective. Amazing how small the Mansion "house" looks from that angle and amazing to me that the show building is not more visible. I am very optimistic for the look of this this new area. :)

No your not alone, I noticed that as well, while it doesn't ruin the area, the metal roofing sticks out as a cheap application. However, I'm still holding out a tiny amount of hope that they'll cloak it a bit more before the opening later this month.

It seems odd that they'd splurge completely reconstructing the tents across the way, but not budget a little bit extra for a few more dumbo tent coverings. Not complaining BTW.

The metal roof doesn't bother me, I think it looks fine. I also don't think this is a cost cutting measure since I would think the metal roof would have costed more then fabric. Might save money in the long run since it's easier to maintain, but probably has a higher up front cost.

I actually see the canvas coverings on the old tents as a cost cutting measure since it would have cost a lot more to re-strucutre them for a solid roof like they did on the Dumbo queue building.

Thanks, I was going to sat that. By no means is the roof on the Dumbo queue a cost cutting exercise.

I hope they populate the area with lots more conifers. That is what the art shows and it makes a big difference in atmosphere to have the forest be made up of Oaks and such as opposed to conifers. I understand a mix will be probable but loads of tall pines would help with the European forest theme.

Thanks for the great pics. For the first time, some of these give a sense of what it will be like to approach and walk through the new area.

In all the anxiety over D-ticket/C-Ticket, no potter swatter, etc., the "overall feel" of the area has been ignored. I think it's going to be a magnificent area to "just be in, and walk though". The addition of so many trees (and rocks, and water . . . ) is going to transform the entire feel of Fantasyland, into, well . . . . a land.

Certainly true. The expansion may not be worth planning a new vacation to see (which Potter is worth IMHO), but it will certainly improve Fantasyland markedly.

And this is going to give Magic Kingdom, and Fantasyland specifically what it really needs most right now, capacity. Both attraction capacity and walking space.

It is probably the most bang for their buck--they are building some high-capacity, yet reasonably cheap (by Disney standards) rides that will really increase capacity. If you compare this with Radiator Springs Racers, you see the difference. RSR has a relatively low capacity at an exhorbitant cost. While it will (hopefully) be an amazing ride, it wasn't very cost-effective.

Which is what DCA real needs. Capacity isn't a problem out there at the moment, a compelling reason to go to the park is, or at least was.

exactly. Different projects with different purposes. Universal also needed a reason for people to come into the park after introducing nothing new for 10 years, so they built Potter.

Disney World (luckily for them) continues to have a good image among most people, so they can (unluckily for us) rest on their laurels and people keep showing up. All they needed was more space in the Magic Kingdom to hold bodies.
