I was wondering if any of you have traced your family tree and found any famous people in your family?
My oldest brother Michael is tracing our family tree and found that on my moms side we are a direct descendant of George washington and that on our dads side we are cousins to Madonna! LOL!:D

Wow, you're in with the stars there.

I'm distantly related to a quite famous british explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton, but thats it.

I think you win Darrel!

I assume you mean a direct descendent of Washington's adopted children, as he had no known (acknowledged) biological children.

I only made the remark because some (or even most...I'm not that familiar with them) genealogists don't accept adoptions (kind of conflicts with the "gene" thing. ;))

Personally, I believe family is family.

It's probably the 3rd generation thing! 1st generation works hard to build fortune. 2nd generation may have witnessed or even participated in, the struggle, and probably reaped some of the rewards...with a strong feeling of gratitude...so continues to work hard to preserve said fortune. 3rd generation has known nothing but comfort and wealth, so blows fortune having a good time. 4th generation has to start all over again! ;)

This is just a generalization...obviously,many families avoid this. However, I can think of 3 local businesses (off the top of my head) where this has happened recently.

Susan

:D Keifer was my celeb crush all through high school. LOL

As for myself, My grandmother is astronaut John Glenn's cousin. She has also said that we are direct descendants of some famous Native American involved with a "battle", but in her age, she cannot remember any other details than that, so it doesn't help much. I'm in the process of tracing my Native American roots, so hopefully I'll figure that out eventually.
