That has gotta be fake. It surely would have been noticed by now. Those screens are proably edited to look like that. The Super Mario Bros. type thing is from a start up screen on one game. I have it on an emulator or had, ill have to check.

The cart if a counterfit, the screen's haven't been edited.

I have that game and I never noticed it (though I've never been the first to notice naughty things found in Disney films). I haven't played it in a long time. It does seem odd that they would just now be noticing it.

Edit: I just went upstairs, dug out my GBA and found the game and turned it on. I definitely think the game in question was a bootleg. The screens shown in the pictures don't even exist in the Monsters Inc game when it's loading. Plus, I still agree that the game has been out long enough that someone would have noticed it before now.

This is some of the worst journalism work I've ever seen. Why anyone would buy this BS is completely beyond me. It's just rife with red flags.

So you're saying that, though the game has been out (and in millions of homes) for about three years, this is the FIRST time that someone has noticed it?

And I love when it says "Disney was unavailable for comment." That gave a lot of things away. Maybe it should have said "This reporter was too lazy to actually go out and corroborate evidence." Notice how there are NO other sources besides a seven-year old and her dad.

The pirated version of the game is the only one affected.

I found a link to a followup article, but I can't get to it here at work.

Sun misfires against games

The British tabloid newspaper, The Sun, has reported that a Disney game aimed at children has been sold that features strong swearing.

The newspaper alleges that the GBA Monsters Inc game by Disney/THQ features a certain Anglo-Saxon word beginning with F. According to the story Mark Stewart of North Shields spent £200 on two GBAs for his children and several games.

Poor old Mark, not content with clearly paying over the odds, he's gone and told the whole sorry tale to the Sun.

"I am disgusted. This was their big Christmas present," Mark told The Sun. "Beki was playing and said, 'Daddy, there is a swear word.' I said there couldn't be because it was a Monsters, Inc game. But she said, 'Daddy, it is the F-word'. She was upset because she did not expect to see it.

"This game is for kids. If it was for adults you might expect such language. But I don't say this word in front of my daughter - and I don't expect Disney games to contain it either. Surely Disney test their games or see what goes out in their name."

Unfortunately for Mark, due to the usual standards of British tabloid journalism no-one actually put any effort into researching the story. If they had it would have been discovered that Mark's game was in fact a fake pirate copy. And not a very good fake at that. The offending text was part of a message added to the game by the pirate/hacking group.

The full text is as follows, though I've asterisked the offending work. I'm sure you know what it says:

MODE 7 BRINGS YOU ::: MONSTERS INC. (C) THQ ::: IT's BEEN AWHILE SINCE OUR LAST RELEASE, BUT WE'RE STILL AROUND.. STAY TUNED FOR MORE! - REMEMBER TRUE SCENERS DON'T CARE ABOUT CRC'S AND UNTOUCHED DUMPS, THOSE THAT DO CAN F**K OFF AND DIE! - OUR RESPECT TO THE FOLLOWING: CAPITAL . ILLUSION . AGGRESSION . ANTHROX . SNEAKERS . SWAT . MENACE . EURASIA . VENOM . LIGHTFORCE . OK! THAT'S ALL FOR NOW, SEE YOU IN THE NEXT ONE (DO YOU GUYS EVEN READ THIS FAR?)

Disney, of course, declined to comment. I'm no great fan of the company but it's clearly unfair to be attacked by a misguided newspaper for the actions of criminals. One wonders when mainstream journalism will actually put some effort into covering games stories rather than seeing one of the UK's (and thus its readers) most popular hobbies as the bogeyman.
