F&W: Don't put the word "beer" on your shirt...

To my knowledge the alcohol shirt rules does not exist nor has ever existed. That being said, I imagine it was the CM trying to nicely diffuse the situation to a guest whom had had to much alcohol and that they had to cut off. No one likes to be told they're being cut off so making light of the situation may have been the CMs way of diffusing the tension caused by the situation.

I am thinking its the CM politely telling them no more. I was at the first day of the food and wine festival (first time ever do not see why its raved about) and one of the Mugs was giganticc. Maybe a pint and a half? If they had two each it could get them drunk. I drink out of that kind of glass at my local brewpub and two would get me drunk.

So if they only had 2 they could have been drunk.

Wore my Guinness beer, Corona beer, Margaritaville and Food and Wine shirts there and never had any problems being served over the years. I did however wear my Mickey Mouse shirt and was not allowed to buy a Mickey plush once.

Braved F&W last night as a favor to a friend. Ahead of me at Hops & Barley Market, two guys ahead of me were refused service.

Were they falling down drunk? Not at all, seemed like they'd had one or two at most--which is unlike many other sloshed guests I saw (in fairness, drunk is probably the only way to enjoy Starship).

The problem was their T-shirt. On the front it read "Man v. Food" in block letters, with "& Beer" in italics across the bottom. (Tried to snap a pic, but no flash on my phone.) The cashiers told them booze can't be sold to anyone with a reference to alcohol on their clothing. I left before the problem was resolved--waited 20 minutes for a beer, I was going to drink it--but I found this a crazy rule. Has anyone else seen it enforced?

I saw that group, the shirts were blue and the female group members wore pink ones with "wo" written in before the "man" ... they were drinking pleanty when I saw them midday.

I think that guests should have to wear appropriate clothing to the parks. Defining what is appropriate is a tricky situation. I would argue that seeing an overweight person wearing clothes that don't fit is far more offensive to me than a shirt that says one of Carlin's 7 dirty words on it. I saw some things in my last trip to Typhoon Lagoon that cannot be unseen, but unfortunately that goes with the nature of water parks. Should we have to accept that? It's probably not my decision to make as a guest, and often times it's an uncomfortable conversation by a cast member.

Nope absolutely not their policy -- but it IS their policy not to serve anyone who looks intoxicated, they don't have to be "falling down drunk"...They have historically had HUGE problems with alcohol at the F&W festival, especially on those nights that the local universities arrive with their 22-bus entourages...

Wait- you requested a manager and had them tell someone to turn their shirt inside-out because it said "?" I find that much more obnoxious than the word on the shirt. It's the park's job to make rules and enforce them, not yours.
You were the hall monitor in school, weren't you? Lol.

Actually he or she is a CM who actually gives a hooy about policy, image and Good show.

We can NEVER have enough of this type of CM!

Start offending people who drink responsibly over something so petty, and there may not be much of a F&W Festival - or World Showcase for that matter - in a few years...

Everyone is so easily offended these days..... Assuming there is truth to this: IF this is a Disney policy then dangit ENFORCE IT.....

I am "offended" by people coming to WDW and doing whatever the heck they want, damaging stuff, writing on stuff, tossing trash all over the place, etc...and meanwhile Disney CMs are unable to control the people because Disney wont usually let them enforce the rules... Wouldnt wanna offend the Guest. :(

I was at Soarin like three years ago during the F&W Festival with my wife.....approached the Fastpass entrance and two people (man and wife) were yelling at the CM about denying them entry for their Fastpasses..... it was UGLY, loud, and to be honest I was amazed no security magicly arrived.....I seriously thought the Guest was going to attack the CM as the guy was in the CMs face.... suddenly the Guest turns to me (yeah Lucky Me.....) and asks MY opinion of the situation and shoves their two fastpasses into my empty hand saying LOOK at these! The Fastpasses were for Soarin at 4:30PM and it was (seriously!) 11:30AM and this idiot (who was clearly drunk by his actions and his breathe) wanted MY opinion. I told him NO WAY I WOULD LET YOU PASS and backed the CM.... Fortunately the Guest apparently considered the Game Lost and scurried away.... CM thanked me over and over..... and the sad thing is this CM was only trying to do their job and even sadder I wonder if the situation had gone critical before my arrival if the CM would have been in trouble for simply trying to enforce the rules.

It is simple... Walt Disney World is a wonderful place, BUT without the many wonderful CM's like you it would "just be another place"......You are the secret ingredient to the Magic. Shhhh...dont tell UNI up the road though ;)

You are equating these examples - vandalism and verbal abuse/threatening someone - to having the word "beer" on a shirt? And they are at the same level of being offensivness? Gotcha...

If you're "offended" by a person wearing an ill-fitting shirt, you've lived a charmed life.

Having said all that, the biggest issue I have is the ONLY front line CMs who have the power to ask a guest to turn a shirt inside out or threaten to throw them out are main entrance ops. Any other CM, from merch to security has to call a manager. So now the % of CMs who aren't going to DO anything about it increases.

As a former CM I can say that this is a good thing. The number of CMs that are capable of making this call is very, very low. Managers are there to work with Guests on sensitive issues. CMs are there to do their primary job, run attractions, be cognizant of safety. Beyond that they need to keep the place clean with a smile on their face, not engage Guests in an attempt to police them. CMs call a Manager and they make the call.

bull. If I have a guest with the F word getting off my boat, I should have the ability to enforce the rule, especially the blatant ones. Many CMs don't care enough to call the managers, and that's the problem.
