F&W: Don't put the word "beer" on your shirt...

Braved F&W last night as a favor to a friend. Ahead of me at Hops & Barley Market, two guys ahead of me were refused service.

Were they falling down drunk? Not at all, seemed like they'd had one or two at most--which is unlike many other sloshed guests I saw (in fairness, drunk is probably the only way to enjoy Starship).

The problem was their T-shirt. On the front it read "Man v. Food" in block letters, with "& Beer" in italics across the bottom. (Tried to snap a pic, but no flash on my phone.) The cashiers told them booze can't be sold to anyone with a reference to alcohol on their clothing. I left before the problem was resolved--waited 20 minutes for a beer, I was going to drink it--but I found this a crazy rule. Has anyone else seen it enforced?

That's the first I've ever heard of such a thing. We saw lots of "Drinking around the World" type t-shirts at the Festival last year, and judging by all the beers in hand, they weren't refused service. I too am curious to know if anyone else has seen this enforced. I think it's ridiculous.

Yesterday we saw lots of people wearing Drunk 1 and Drunk 2 shirts, even saw a Drunk 3 once. None of them seemed to have problems getting served.

I don't doubt what you saw. But I think there's more to the story. I mean, they sell "Food & Wine Festival" t-shirts. By that logic, you wouldn't be served wine if you're wearing a "Food & Wine Festival" t-shirt.

I was there last night and saw lots of people with alcohol-related words on t-shirts. I never saw anyone refused service.

Seems like an odd rule for an organization making money hand over fist based on the very word that is not permitted. The rule is obviously a feeble attempt to convey family values, but lets be honest - they're talking out of both sides of their mouth here. Having said that, who has the word 'beer' on their shirt? ha

There has to be more to the story than this... it seems odd that a person has the word 'beer' on his shirt and is refused service. I could see at Victoria and Albert's....but at F&W? The only possible thing I can see is a newly hired/trained cashier coupled with a patron who may have appeared to be inebriated... Would love to hear from anyone who may have seen something similar.... odd story, though.

Yes
yet people with "my foot hurts from kicking so much " tshirts get allowed in EPCOT. I had to tell a CM to get a manager to have the kid's shirt turned inside out. I tell ya...someone has to protect the magic!

But really, being refused because of beer on a shirt? I wonder if there is some kind of slowly building movement within EPCOT to cut down on DATW. Of course my response is people have nowhere else to go, reopen the clubs!!!!

Really??? Beer ??? I've seen some pretty obnoxious t shirts being worn into the parks that I thought shouldn't have passed through the entrance gates. Maybe Disney should start outlawing any t shirt that doesn't have a Disney character on it. :D

Gosh, I've seen tons of offensive shirts at Disney, however the majority of them have actually been produced by Disney and sold in their gift shops. Sorry but do we really need turkey leg and dolewhip shirts? Come on.

As far as the beer shirt goes, I'm actually going to guess that there isn't more to the story. There are tons of cast members/managers who try and make their own policies on the spot in an effort to gain recognition.

We try to catch as many bad t-shirts as we can but unfortunately we don't see everything. Did the CM/Manager give you attitude or anything when you did get them?

I've never heard of the alcohol t-shirt rule and have seen too many drunk people to count while I'm clearing the park.
