I have seen this before as well. I have the feeling there's no need for such concern...I'm in EPCOT right now, and all of the whirly-gigs are off, and this may be why...

Now don't everyone get your hopes up, I think I've seen them do this before, but anything's possible.
I'll probably have more for you later.
I'm concerned they might not remove them at some point but hopeful they will. :lookaroun

So is Mr Epcot. Obviously he is in the SoaT queue.
I actually like the whirly-gigs. If they painted them silver and placed them in the planters where they would be surrounded by greenery, it would give the plaza some interesting kinetics, in my opinion. Of course, they should probably be shorter if Disney did something like that.

Ah, we shall see. Also have to keep a eye on the building's color, and the tarps, and the whirlygigs. The "gates" were already removed, remember?

Keep the Whirlygigs! I love em'...Only thing that needed removing is the pin station canopy...the rest can stay.

Here is a "whirlygig" that is Epcot-esque. The current ones could easily be swapped out for these after the tarps are removed.

I think WDWGoof07 idea is good.
If they take out the whirly gigs and put in new shorter ones that are silver and/or blue into the planters that would be nice kinetics but without being the obtrusive ugly eyesore they are now.
Would open up the plaza more like it used to be.
What is your order of astetics?
1. Remove Tarps
2. Remove Tombstones
3. Remove stage. (Or at least the small section blocking the FON water jets)
4. Remove whirlygigs (Or use idea shown above)
Railings have been done and look Great!
Add to list at your hearts content.
