extraTERRORestrail Ride

I'm just glad I got to ride AE before it closed down last year. Me and Steph(ILuvStitch) were in MK and I really wanted to ride it, but she said no, then the security guy told us it'd be closed in october so we had to ride it.

I Liked it, and while I don't think Stitch will be AS scary, it'll still be a fun ride.

Stitch's Great Escape is being done the Haunted Mansion way... they couldn't figure out if it should be funny or scary, so it's both. Stitch isn't a nice character in this... this takes place before Hawaii, so Stitch is pretty much a monster. Don't go and say they got rid of all the scary parts. From what I've heard, it still has quite a bit of darkness. As for AE, it never really scared me anyway... so, I mean, I guess I'm not expecting a big scare factor. More or less the same. After all, it's not like they ripped out everything. ;) It's more of an overlay... Except with out the teleportation factor. :)

Stitch promises to be a neat attraction. Now, on the other hand, I'd like to see something more original. I mean, enough with the rides based on movies. :)

Ummmm.....YEAH

There was no movie or character that it was based on (Yes it started out that way with the whole "Alien" movies but luckily they came up with a much better storyline). And this was the FIRST psychological thrill attraction using binural sound.

And for the record AE was an attraction or a show, not a ride. Anyone expecting an actual "ride" in AE or SGE will be sadly disapointed.

There are other attractions that need either an update or BIG refurbishment more than AE did.

Disney has to keep some things open that are popular with us Disney-fanatics. No matter what the crowds are like. Before the movie came out did Pirates of the Caribbean ever have a wait during a regular day? Well if it did it certainly wasn't when I was there. But did it deserve to be replaced? Nope. If CoP or Spaceship Earth closed today do you think that most of the day guests would even care? Of course not. But would the people that keep going year after year care? Of course!

I can see what you are saying and you are right, but most of the time I was at AE it was crowded enough to form a line. Sure it would only be a 15-20 minute wait but it was still crowded. I just think there were other things that needed an update more.

I think we'll be surprised. Isn't this supposed to be one of the most technologically advanced multisensory attractions ever? Like even more than AE was?

I'll bet it'll still be scary, but a fun scary instead of a dark scary (i.e. The Mummy as opposed to The Excorcist). For example, Honey I Shrunk the Audience and It's Tough to Be a Bug--those scared the crap out of me the first time I rode them, but it was fun.

Personally, I'm not going to miss the darkness of AE, just the cheesy jokes. Those were hilarious everytime. "It's an alien!" ("It's my mother-in-law!") "Don't eat me. Eat THIS GUY!"

I'll also miss the breath effect. That was great going on it with first timers!

I wouldn't fret though. People need to give Disney a break for putting new things in their parks. It's part of the business!

out with the old ...

Of course we'll miss AE, but let's try to hold out some optimisim that the new Stich themed attraction will be good too. I was always a little surpirsed with AE - while I personally found it amusing when the uninititated found that there really was some "terror" in the ride, I can understand how some parents might be alarmed with the kids reaction. I'll wait and check out the new before I pass judgment, but I will miss AE.

I was not happy to see it go and I went to the MK on the last night that AE was open to take many pictures and receive my "unforgettable encounter" one more time. Now that it's gone now, we must hope for the best and give Disney Imagineers an opportunity to shine. (we hope)

Well that's the perfect attitude to have about it.

But since AE was my all time favorite and I took the closure so hard, it's very tough for me to be optimistic. I don't know how WDI can make it work (by pleasing the kids but not being a bore to the AE fans), but I certainly hope they do. I don't know if I'll ever see SGE (don't know if I can take being in there again), but I DO hope it will be a nice addition. No need for eveyone else to be unhappy just because I am :)

You can't forget "My mouth was open"!

And yes seeing first timers' reactions was half the fun of AE. I enjoyed taking my friends on AE more than any other attraction. It was the best way to show them how great the Disney parks are. Needless to say it was their favorite attraction at the MK. Yes it was a group of high schoolers too

Who says the breath effect is gone? My guess is that all the pre-existing effects will be used as something new.

In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised it the ride is EXACTLY the same, simply with a new script and animatronic!

Thank you! Glad to see I'm not alone in my plight. Drives me nuts when peolple call the show attractions "rides". You don't go anywhere... you just sit there!

Ah, same here. Took a friend of mine in during Night of Joy in September '03 when I went with my school. He wasn't so sure about riding it (actually, he said the past 4 times he'd been at MK, he'd get in line, but would always chicken out going into the main chamber), but I got him on and he liked it a lot. Always was fun seeing first-time reactions, as I had taken other first-timers before as well. Now, they're all memories......

I tell you, I know right now I'm not going to like SGE. Alien Encounter was the only real attraction for the older crowd at MK, and my favorite attraction in the park. If it wasn't getting attention and lines were short, how come rides like Snow White's Scary Adventures (which rarely has a line exceeding 20 minutes) haven't left the park? AE was a great attraction, loved by many people. Even friends of mine, who visit once every year or two who don't know a lot about Disney, were shocked when I informed them of its closure. Just wait: in a few years, Stitch's Great Escape will rarely have a long line.

Stitch could have had a great attraction in Adventureland with Lilo......

Man, I 100% agree with you. AE was my most favourite ride. I took it very hard to see it go. And people, the reason why it was walk on was because it could take in large amounts of people at a time instead of two persons per car like on Buzz Lightyear. Stitch is gonna ruin the whole tomorrowland theme because Stitch's story takes place at the present time way out in space instead of the future. I'm really gonna miss AE.

My favorite park of AE was watching everyone else scream.... It was so great....

And I would also follow along with the script and reply to the people talking (I do this also on R&RC).

Thank you very much! When I have been saying that SGE will not have lines after 5 years, it WAS NOT a dis on SGE at all. That attraction show building can hold a TON of people. Yes AE did have huge lines for the first 4 or 5 years but there are very few attractions that can keep a huge crowd over time longer than that. ESPECIALLY a show and not a "ride". For the average theme park goer they usually only see a "show" one time during the trip. But they will get multiple trips on the thrill "rides". For the record I can't really remember AE being a true walk on during the busy times of the day. Unless you went at the last few hours of operation I usually found AE with a 15-20 minute wait. Not earthshattering but certainly very good for a "show". Bottom line was WDW wanted to change AE because people complained because it scared their kids (And I'm sure they didn't even pay attention to the signs).

Oh man I know every word to the attraction also. Especially the preshows. I usually use lines from the show in my everyday talk. I like to use "Bon Voyage" and "Indefinately" most of all.

Hey guys I just got the best AE souvineer I could get! On Ebay I bought a Cast Preview AE shirt. But the beautiful thing about this one is because it was of the cast preview in November 1994! So this is probably the only AE design that was ever made for the "original" version (Man I would give ANYTHING to be able to see the Phil Hartman preshow and see how the final chamber was changed). I could be wrong about that though. This is now my favorite t-shirt

Here is the link to see a pic:

BTW I hope this isn't against the rules. I'm not trying to sell it, I'm just showing the pic of it.

I saw the original AE show. Phil Hartman was funny, but they thought he was too similar to the Timekeeper so they changed to differentiate the two. Inside the theatre, there was almost a non-stop people screaming soundtrack. It was a little too serious, so they lighten it up a bit and made a little bit more humorous.
