1) I love CBJ
2) I hate overlays
3) Disney has done the Xmas overlay at CBJ
4) Disney does lots of guest surveys and feedback
5) You are right, Xmas events are big at MK
6) Yet Disney does NOT continue with the overlay
7) THEREFORE, I am putting forth that CBJ Xmas is NOT popular enough to see a return on the cost of implementation
8) Thank goodness, because I want to see the real show, not the Summer Vacation Hoedown, not the Xmas Jamboree, not the Groundhog Day extravaganza.
Thanks for the explanation. I love CBJ also. (See my signature lines below.) Only as an adult did I see the connection to the traditional country and Americana songs (Ole Sloughfoot, Blood on the Saddle, etc.) enough to understand just exactly how well they did their research for this show. A couple of things were tied to recent hits, but most were chosen to fit the theme and be timeless. Good choices.
But I will say that this show lends itself, I think well, to a well-done Christmas edition. Just like a vaudeville show or barn-dance type of show (The Grand Ole Opry) would do Christmas songs during that season, I think it fits well.
I also would not mind a new show for the main show every now and then -- as long as it kept with the timeless theme, but just with some other songs. There are other songs that would fit perfectly.
What I would REALLY like to see is the show have several options that might play each day, like a band that would have different sets. Not likely to happen, but I think it would be nice.
Have you ever heard the "O Mickey Where Art Thou" album? That was an amazingly well-done album. It played on the popularity of "O Brother Where Art Thou," of course, at the time, but it was a great project. Whoever produced it knew what they were doing. They picked some of the best talent in Nashville to match the project, and created timeless country-styled takes on Disney tunes that are some of the best you will ever find. They even used the famous Jordanaires to back Colin Raye (I think) on "The Circle of Life," and fused in "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" seemlessly.
I say this because I think that, with the right producer, a new show or a seasonal show for the CBJ could incredibly fun and original, a sparkling addition to the show. And over time, rotate them in, with the original show sometimes playing and the "new" show(s) sometimes being the band's next set.
I just think that it lends itself well to a change every now and then, but only if done well. And, with the "O Mickey" album, they have proven that they can do traditional country stylings well.
