Exterior Refurbishment of Country Bear Jamboree

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
There's no reason for CBJ to have a refurb, it just got a major one a couple of years ago. Both costumes, AAs and shortening of the play. Which surprisingly was a good decision.

I love this show to death!! It was my favorite thing to do when I was little!!! I just REALLY wish they would add the two extra seasonal shows along with the AA advancements that Tokyo has. It would be much more impressive.

This is an outside of the building refurb. Nothing to do with the actual show.

I was posting in response to someone else who was asking if the actual show was being refurbbed and another posting a sarcastic comment about the show itself.

I am very much aware that it is an exterior refurb, thank you. :)

Still a good time to remind everyone that they used to go all out on this show for Christmas. No reason at all that they cannot do that these days, especially since they now charge extra for a supposedly all-out Christmas event many nights at the MK. Just makes no sense at all why this attraction does not run the Christmas show every year. None. And don't tell me that it is money or the rights to Rudolph (as was mentioned some years ago as a point of contention). They have already demonstrated that they have no problem editing the show -- and that could be dropped, or a new show written.

No excuse. None.

(And, yes, I know that this refurb is outside only. That is part of my point. It should not be. It would a good time to get ready for the holiday shows, if they would have them.)

Well there is one good reason... people don't want it.

I'll take the bait.

Are you just snarking about CBJ in a thread about it, which you had to care enough to open?

Or are you ligitimately saying people would not appreciate a Christmas version of the show? If so, what would be the reason that you would say that they would not want a Christmas version of the show? It lends itself well to that, and of course the MK Very Merry Christmas events are tremendously popular. So, it would seem that people like Christmas events at the MK.

Do you think they don't do some of these Christmas overlays anymore because people visiting that time of year want to see the original attraction and complain about the overlays? I know it's likely just laziness but it could be a factor.

I really doubt the average tourist cares that much about seeing one version of the Bear Jamboree over another. To them they're all just "the bear show". At least the Xmas overlay is a nice surprise for them, and was an annual tradition for fans.

Not to mention the fact that it was very inexpensive to change over to the holiday show. I remember years ago a credible poster here said it cost something like five or so thousand dollars to switch over. Chump change, but we know they have the "every penny counts" mentality, and won't even stamp Mickeys on the napkins anymore.

1) I love CBJ
2) I hate overlays
3) Disney has done the Xmas overlay at CBJ
4) Disney does lots of guest surveys and feedback
5) You are right, Xmas events are big at MK
6) Yet Disney does NOT continue with the overlay
7) THEREFORE, I am putting forth that CBJ Xmas is NOT popular enough to see a return on the cost of implementation
8) Thank goodness, because I want to see the real show, not the Summer Vacation Hoedown, not the Xmas Jamboree, not the Groundhog Day extravaganza.

Thanks for the explanation. I love CBJ also. (See my signature lines below.) Only as an adult did I see the connection to the traditional country and Americana songs (Ole Sloughfoot, Blood on the Saddle, etc.) enough to understand just exactly how well they did their research for this show. A couple of things were tied to recent hits, but most were chosen to fit the theme and be timeless. Good choices.

But I will say that this show lends itself, I think well, to a well-done Christmas edition. Just like a vaudeville show or barn-dance type of show (The Grand Ole Opry) would do Christmas songs during that season, I think it fits well.

I also would not mind a new show for the main show every now and then -- as long as it kept with the timeless theme, but just with some other songs. There are other songs that would fit perfectly.

What I would REALLY like to see is the show have several options that might play each day, like a band that would have different sets. Not likely to happen, but I think it would be nice.

Have you ever heard the "O Mickey Where Art Thou" album? That was an amazingly well-done album. It played on the popularity of "O Brother Where Art Thou," of course, at the time, but it was a great project. Whoever produced it knew what they were doing. They picked some of the best talent in Nashville to match the project, and created timeless country-styled takes on Disney tunes that are some of the best you will ever find. They even used the famous Jordanaires to back Colin Raye (I think) on "The Circle of Life," and fused in "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" seemlessly.

I say this because I think that, with the right producer, a new show or a seasonal show for the CBJ could incredibly fun and original, a sparkling addition to the show. And over time, rotate them in, with the original show sometimes playing and the "new" show(s) sometimes being the band's next set.

I just think that it lends itself well to a change every now and then, but only if done well. And, with the "O Mickey" album, they have proven that they can do traditional country stylings well.

I think it's a travesty that audio animatronic shows that could easily be changed now and then (along with filmed stuff) aren't.

There's no reason that the quality put into the original CBJ couldn't be applied to several others. I'd prefer a rotation of four shows, giving people a reason to see CBJ on every visit (presuming they come at different times of the year), leading to increased attendance, and, I hope, less chance of it being removed. I'd actually prefer that Xmas not be one of the shows, but I'm cool with Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter.

I also seem to recall hearing that there were some royalty requirements for the songs in the Xmas show.
