Is it just me or was the vegetation in that area very dense before now? Weren't they cutting down/trimming trees for the monorail sightlines?

Yes, I believe it was thicker. Landscaping probably went in and really did a good trim and cleanout job, or possibly even replanting a lot of it. It will grow in again.

Tree trimming for the monorail was on the other side of the lagoon from the MK. And this area isn't anywhere near the monorail, either. You've got the railroad tracks and Guest Relations building between it and the monorail.

i thought they were refurbing this area for mickey and friends to retheme area for them so they could close toontown

They are. This is just refreshing an area not currently seen by many Guests, but will be seen by tons when the M&G's open. The M&G's will be inside in one or both of the original theaters.

So what is different? The only thing I've noticed is that they put a metal railing through the walkway so people wouldn't be sitting on the actual structure and ruining the paint. I'd love to see some before photos to put this into perspective....

The bricks were changed also.
