The title says it all.

Is Everest an instant classic or does it need more time and fanfare to reach that status?

I'd say time will tell (more likely it will become a classic), but here's why I have some doubt. While the queue theming and details are top notch, the coaster itself is really just average. I mean, I know they were going for a "family coaster," but after the detail of the queue, the coaster is just really lacking an extra sparkle. Apart from the going backwards bit, there's really nothing that sets it apart from other coasters. Don't get me wrong, its a great attraction, but there's nothing about the ride itself that really makes you go, "Wow!", especially now that the Yeti is becoming an engineering disaster. (My honest opinion of course.)

Classic. In grand Mansion/Pirates tradition: It's style that counts...

I think it's a Classic, the ride itself is fantastic and with the queue areas themeing as you approach the ride is amazing. It really draws you in getting you more involved with the tales of the Yeti, that it really could be real. This kind of story writing is "Classic" for some of the most popular rides in WDW and so elevates Expedition Everest (no pun intended) to this category.

It's a classic, but they need to get the whole show running again -- mist, bird, and of course yeti.

DS and I rode when it was in soft openings and it was an instant classic for both of us. 50+ rides since [we've stopped counting for the last few trips], and it's still a wonderful experience. :D

I think it has already shown us it has magnificent theming but as for the ride itself just another ride and it only has e-ticket status because its a newer well done rollercoaster, but with out the yeti moving just ehhh.

The mist will never work with the ride sensors going haywire all the time from it and puting it into e-stop.

If the yeti is redone, which WILL require a significant refurb, then the ride will go into the history books. not till then its just a engineering disaster for now.

I know i sound cold but There was so much hype about the biggest AA in the world on that ride and it failed, no one has seen it in A mode for quite some time. However im sure disney wont let there investment being so expensive and so new just die out, they prob just took a step back and seeing how it can be fixed

Put me down as a classic. On my trip earlier this month, I rode it 6 times in a row on a bet to see who would say "enough" first. I am 44 he is 14.

I was ready for ride number 7 but he bugged out. After about the 4th ride I noticed EE kinda had the feel of a tradtional wooden coaster. Not the smooth high speed of RnR or the huge ones at IOA or Six Flags or the jerkyness of BTM.

It just struck me as having a more nostalgic feel to it. I also want to "toot my own horn", after the 6th ride, we had an ADR 2 hours later at O'Hannaha, I still beat him in our annual shrimp eating contest...NOT BAD FOR A 44 year old...IMHO

Right now I can only say classic failure. It's a great coaster, don't get me wrong. But the biggest and best AA in the park is now silent and still. In only two years.

It could be classic, but must be fixed and I just don't see it. The ride works, so why spend the cash. As long as the yeti is silenced, no classic status from me.

Big no on that. No way is this a classic attraction yet. That title needs to be earned.

The effects need to be fixed and actually work properly on a regular basis. Right now, it is basically just a somewhat dull coaster with a neat mountain built around it.

Now, im sure they will fix the effects. And im sure over time if it starts running smoothly, it will become a classic.

EE is big. It's a mountain. It's a coaster. Hence a huge crowd puller.

I also think it is severly lacking. More specifically, it is frustratingly close to a phenomenal classic.
The ride itself is lacklustre. It's too short. The effects don't work. And Joe Rhode has made his usual mistake of confusing 'story' with 'narrative story'. A coaster can't have a narrative storyline that unfolds in 2:30 minutes, told by story elements that whizz by at great speed. Backstory, setting and theme are where it's at. As it is, the attraction suffers from trying to squeeze in a story line.

25 years after Big Thunder, WDW has build a mountain coaster that is less good than Big Thunder. And second best does not make a classic to me.

If not a classic, it is definitely a "must-ride" on every trip. I couldn't imagine going to AK without making sure that I head over to E:E for at least one (if not several) rides each trip. The theming is as good as any WDW attraction.

To me, its a classic. Yeah, it is a real shame the Yeti isn't doing its thing. (Where's the engineering in the Imagineering?), but the attraction is an instant classic.

Make sure you also put down Tower of Terror as "not a classic".

Short drop ride with tons of busted effects?

Not a classic.
