Has anyone heard who is the sponsor for this ride? I have heard The Discovery Channel is the sponsor. Disney & Discovery Networks have teammed up for "Expedition Everest: Mission Himalayas"

My bad. It is Innoventions East, after disney turned them away from Universe of Energy w. Ellen. sponsorship.

Apparently the George Lopez show is sponsoring that ride next year.

i actually remember hearing discovery networks was sponsoring it, but i don't remember any official announcments. i actually think discorery networks is the perfect sponsor for EE

That depends. There are different deals for different sponsors.

Are there any standards for sponsorship, other than the fact that they get some advertisement?

Sponsorship usually involves the cost of operating the ride among other things. It can get very technical and varies from company to company. It can range from VIP Lounges to certain perks to Disney contracting the use of said sponsor's products.
