Okay i have a few questions about this ride. I wanna try this ride for the first time when i go in July. I have a fear of heights and i know there is a huge climb on this ride. so 1. How long does it take to make that climb up the mountain? Is it a fast climb or is it a slow climb? Also when your going backwards how fast does the train go and is there any big drops when ur in the dark or is it just small little ones that are barely noticable? Please help!!

The lift hills are both very zippy on Everest, much faster than Space Mountain or Big Thunder. Based on a video from YouTube I just used to double-check, the entire main lift hill takes about 20 seconds from bottom to top, but the first half is enclosed in the temple, so you really only see you're up high for the second half of it.

If you're scared of heights, I'd avoid the first car or two of the train, as you can see out across the surrounding area when you stop at the top of the mountain.

In the backward portion, there are a couple dips, but it's mostly swooping curves rather than big drops. The biggest drop is the one you can see out the front of the mountain.

I'm not a fan of heights myself - I just posted in another thread about being terrified as a kid on Dumbo, thankfully it's not THAT bad anymore - but between the temple and the top of the hill I usually just look straight ahead. As for the backwards part, it is a strange sensation but I don't find it scary at all. I've heard some people say they are sure they were upside down. Obviously, the ride doesn't go upside down but some people do feel that way.

There's no big drops when you're backwards inside the mountain. However, it is at a downward incline. Inside the mountain is a really big helix in comparison to this:

Mind you, Everest is NOT that steep. It's much more mellow. You're just doing it backwards. You go kinda quick, but there's no feeling of falling. Just feels like you're going backwards fast.

I'm quite terrified of heights, but i found Everest's lift hill breathtaking. I sort of forget my fear (quite an accomplishment) and enjoy the amazing view (you can see the other parks off in the distance). Last time i hit the top at sunset, incredible!

The lift itself goes quite fast. It starts slow as it goes through a temple tunnel, but speeds up when you aren't enclosed. It's worth getting over. Other than that, it's just really fast and doesn't jerk you around much. There is a rather high drop (for Disney standards) after the backwards part. It's sort of steep but very short.

Johnny, why do I always find your threads :P

Don't be scared!!! I'm the biggest baby in the world when it comes to heights (usually have to be medicated on airplanes and cant even climb a three step ladder at work!!! Yeah.. I'm pretty bad) but this ride is one of my favorites!!!! You barely notice the last unenclosed part of the incline, it goes by so quickly and I, personally, am usually captivated by the lake view. And as for the backwards part, thats my favorite because you really don't feel much. Just like you're being pulled backwards fast. It's an amazing ride and if you come back and post that you didn't go on it, I'll be mad at you. Or, if you're scared, just find me at POP and I'll kick you till you actually get on :D

I'm a huge chicken about coasters - more for the drops than the heights. So if I can do it, you can do it. That said, after trying it for the first time this past March, I have no intention of trying it ever again. Too many drops for me, mostly forward but also backwards. Still, I'm glad I can say I at least tried it once.

We rode it several times after the Everest Challenge 5k.

TOTALLY different experience at night!

We've been on that ride a hundred times and my wife never has a problem with coasters but after the second ride that night she was done.

Almost a :hurl: moment for her.

I definitely enjoy it more at night, such a cool experience. Especially because at the time there was the slightest drizzle in the air.
