I scanned this thread but could not find this information. How long did the Yeti Actually work from the opening date? How long was it until it stopped working and\or remained broken.
I could have sworn it was working on our very first trip as a family but can't be sure now if it was a false memory.

Anyway - they could take the time to fix..h*ck there has to be newer (less breakable -easy to service) better technology out there even by now...but it all come down to one thing - the money. they'll never replace it unless they have to. They don't have to because people still come to the World in droves...still ride this ride over and over and over again.
It started to fail about 10 months or so after opening. Mid 2007 was about the last of the proper Yeti show scene.

@wdwmagic, I'm legitimately asking, what purpose does this serve by remaining as a stickied thread (the only in WDW Parks General Discussion) ? The yeti has been down for five years now, and we all know that isn't changing any time soon. If it ever does, there will inevitably be several threads about it anyway.

So... what else is there to discuss? The remaining effects are minor and consistent... more consistent than several other major effects on property in fact. For 5 years now this thread has been "the steam worked; the steam worked;the steam didn't work; the waterfalls worked; the waterfalls didn't work; etc" (these physical effects are occasionally shut off for various reasons - not because they are broken).

This thread also indirectly downplays the importance of calling attention to other maintenance issues - issues that have a much likelier chance of getting fixed before the yeti.

So... again... why is that worthy discussion of being a stickied thread?

Well ever since it failed, I had always hoped that at anytime we would have a sighting of a working Yeti, and that someone would report it right there. It also seemed worth-while to draw attention to the fact that none of the show scenes work.

If I am not mistaken something like that happened for a short time. We were all surprised that Disney had been working on a repair to return the yeti to at least partial movement. That fix lasted for about a week.

We need time for things to happen.

Thanks Steve.
That's what I thought...Now I know for sure I saw it....;) . My kids were too young and\or scared that first year but I think they may have caught the following year before it broke for good. They mentioned they thought they remembered that as well.

Bird on a stick and mists in the tunnels don't work. Bird because it looks bad, steam because, well we know why. Not that there are even that many effects on the ride, but the rest of them work.

Again - nothing left to discuss, at least nothing worthy of "stickied" discussion, which also draws needed attention away from the other (many) maintenance issues at WDW.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
Doesn't work:
- Mist effects in caves/top of mountain (disabled because of corrosion and messing up ride sensors)
- Vulture at broken tracks (rumored to be disabled because it was a lame looking effect)
- Yeti (everyone knows about this one)

Works:
everything else.

POV video from annual passholder previews, 2006
POV video circa 2011

Oh man, look how different the experience is! Oh wait, no, the mist and vulture barely added anything at all, and you still could barely see the yeti. I'm not excusing TDO not fixing the yeti, but like I have said before, its a bit unfair to have this thread stickied when almost every single ride at WDW has just as many, if not more effects broken and neglected these days.

It's the smaller details added that makes it more life-like and magical. Walt Disney worldn't allow this|:

Rode Everest Twice today, No steam, No snow, No bird, No Yeti, Saw broken track across from where the Yeti was and a strobe light , But Yeti was not there....
The yeti is still there, but there are currently less strobes on it and more of an overall dim blue constant light. Source: I was there today.

Right, and small details are missing from every ride, not just Everest.

Any insight onto why the Disney imagineers haven't really agressively tried to fix the YETI? I like EE , but it seems that the best part about the attraction is gone. Will it ever return?:(

Because park and regional management haven't asked them to. There have been several different proposals on how to do it. But so long as guests pay to enter they don't see the point.

Rode today twice. It looks like the yeti has been moved yet again. A few weeks ago, he seemed positioned where he was almost looking over his shoulder at you....Now he seems to be hovering down again. However - no light on him at all. You really would not know he was there if you had never ridden it. Maybe management got so tired of the Disco Yeti jokes, that they finally decided to just take him out of the ride completely...ha!

I thought that the hawk was kinda cheesy. I like just the sound of the bird, I find it a little more suspenseful. I don't think the mist makes or breaks the ride, it's just a little mist that really doesn't pertain to a major part of the ride. The only thing I have the problem with is the Yeti! Replace a few lightbulbs!

If you can't make the Yeti move animatronically then they should try at least full lighting with a loud sound effect as the train cars pass. Might be a decent compromise until the proper repairs can be completed. It is a waste to just use strobes and keep it dark. Full light for a second or two as the cars pass and a loud roar!

Stay with me on this...
I've thought of the perfect way to fix the Yeti without robbing people of their EE experience and the bonus is the solution will make MK visitors happy as well. Close Stitch's Great Escape and move the AA to Everest. Then take the Yeti and give him the proper repairs he needs to leave his disco years behind him. Profit. It's either that or make a duplicate EE and tear the old one down.
