Do they still have those days where they close the MK early for people who have a hard ticket to come in? That really boiled my potato.

Do you mean "Disney After Hours"? I think it boiled a lot of people's potatoes. They did away with it so far. From what I recall, attendance was so poor that they offered it to DVC members for free. Basically evening extra magic hours that you had to pay for with less things open and free Mickey Bars. At least the morning one had a breakfast buffet.

Yah that's the one. Glad to hear they did away with it.

I don't think they did away with it. The last 2 years have been limited date events. It wasn't meant to run year round.

Personally, I think it looks amazing and would have loved to attend. I've drooled over photos and first hand stories from people who did attend. Haven't read a single negative review. Sounds like an incredible night.

Yeah but you love paid extras so that's no surprise.

Rest of us get the fun of late night MK taken away. But at least they cut way back on them.

As I said before, I have no issue with the premium stuff EXCEPT when it hurts the value of the admission pass I purchased. If I can still do everything I used to do, fine. But YES - if they allow people to purchase additional FPs, that would mean that my admission pass no longer has the same value because my wait times will be longer so I will be unable to enjoy the same number of attractions in a day.

The price of admission to Disney parks keeps going up, which I guess is inevitable. But I want to at least keep the same value of that pass. If they raise the price and decrease the value, UGH... not magical! :(

I get it, but I just refuse to let something like that bother me.

Here's how I see it-
It's just so common, anywhere. I don't pay for premium parking when we go somewhere..I'd rather keep the money in my pocket and walk a few extra steps. If someone else wants to pay- no problem. Same thing with a fast lane, I can wait a few more minutes knowing that I have an extra $200 in my pocket which I wouldn't have had if I bought the fast lane pass. ;).

I haven't been to Universal since Harry Potter was built, but I know that to get the most I'll have to spend money on the wand..and buy a park to park pass, as well as the express pass.
Or, I could decide not to do those extras if they didn't interest me.

I know people say "Disney is supposed to be different". But I don't see their upcharge items as anything bad, because they're so common everywhere. And the truth is, a lot of people want them, I'm sure that's why they were added. So in this case they shouldn't be 'different'.
A group of consumers get something they want, company gets more profit. And in the grand scheme, the people who don't choose to participate really aren't being impacted too greatly.

I love options. Most of them I don't partake in. A couple of them I do. I can't say that my "regular admission only days" have been negatively impacted by those who chose to do something that I didn't want to pay for.

That event was like 2 nights per week I think. Not every night. A lost less than the holiday parties.

Closing the park early, even two nights a week, will negatively affect guests who are in the Magic Kingdom that day, particularly those without park hoppers and who didn't check park hours in advance. Sure we can blame them for not planning ahead, but not everyone knows you need to do that. For many, going to "Disney World" only means visiting MK. And since we're talking about the most visited theme park in the world, more guests will be affected here by an early closing than anywhere else. Not to mention the parks are already overcrowded much of the year, and this only compounds that problem.

I'll agree that many of the upcharge options don't affect me and I can just laugh them off and enjoy my vacation. But having to plan around 6:00 or 7:00 closings does start to have an effect on one's vacation, even those of us who plan months in advance.

But the park closed at 9 I think, with Wishes. The event was 3 hours after park closing.

A hopper wouldn't even matter because all other parks are closed (or closing) as well. The after hours event was not the same as holiday parties- meaning earlier closings and no fireworks.

Here was the 2017 schedule-

Disney After Hours event nights are currently set for January 20 and 27, February 2, 9 and 16, and March 2 and 9, 2017. (Please note that Disney After Hours does not replace Extra Magic Hours (EMH) for our resort guests and are instead held on non-EMH dates). For a full sneak peek inside what a Disney After Hours event entails, check out the video below!

7 nights spread over 3 months. Anyone in the park during one of those 7 nights still got normal park hours and fireworks.

I think people let stuff get to them that really isn't a big deal.

Closing early, even if just an hour, on those days still felt like a negative impact. The last hour of park opening is usually the most memorable for me. It really feels lousy to be rounded up and herded out of the park and explaining to your party "we cant stay late because the people with the lanyards get the park now". If they closed the park at 11 it would still feel lousy to be shuffled out, but at least you feel you had a good time.

I don't get that. So you're mad because someone stayed later? Even though you received normal park hours and fireworks? Just like any other day?

The only difference is a hard ticketed event took place after those things.. it didn't take away from a normal day.

Now holiday parties are 4 nights week probably by next year 5-6 all in order to sell the park twice

No, I'm talking about the After Hours that people are complaining about.

Holiday parties- I can kind of understand.. park closed at 6 or 7, no fireworks unless you attend the party.
Disney After Hours- not the same at all.

Its not a big deal until something special to YOU is taken away, Then it becomes a big deal.

That's why I opppose all of the slipperry slope ideas from Disney

At least you can plan around those days when you expect them. Do they still charge full price when they boot you out at 7?

Yes. But what you have to remember is not everyone does open to close at a park. We did 2 MVMCP days where we only had "regular tickets". Both were enjoyable.

Of course they do and those for the most part are 'gold' pricing days

That's true, it was premium pricing while we were there in '16. I wouldn't buy a one day ticket at that price when a holiday party is that night.. but the good news about that is- most people don't, so the park is less crowded on MVMCP mornings.
