From what I read on the CDC's website, part of the issue with the shot's efficacy earlier in the season was that the vaccine wasn't effective in preventing infection from the prevalent strain at the time, B/Victoria. But is effective against H1N1, which is the dominant strain at this time.
Correct. My wife, son, and I all had B this year. Severe fatigue, moderate cough, and mild fever. Wasn't that bad. Just felt really run down.

I'm told Chapek is in meetings this weekend about potential Paris closures. It's not there yet, but it could be forced by the French government or even the EU in the days to come (if crowd sizes become part of government mandates). Disney is particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus outbreak due to its public entertainment nature; the damage to the company cannot be overstated given that it makes its largest revenues on theme parks and movies. While you shouldn't panic due to the coronavirus, Disney as a company could take major financial hits over the next few months.
I will say this is quite the trial by fire. If he and the company come through this well, I think he will have earned some respect.

My friend who lives in Brazil has a sister living in Switzerland. She told me her sister and her friends are very nervous.

Yes,
I have had one for the past 20 years since I've been a doc and give it to my family (parents, wife, kids) as well. There are some signs that it may decrease the severity of the disease even if it isn't protecting completely against influenza.

And being a physician, you're probably at higher risk contracting the flu....thanks to your patients. If/when an effective vaccine is available, I hope health care workers are among the 1st to receive it.

Doctors at Trump/Pence live news conference estimate vaccine ready in 1 to 1 1/2 years from now.

I am confused at what you are saying? The flu shot this year is not effective against the prevalent strain it was made for?

The flu shot for any given year is basically an educated guess to impart immunity against what scientists think will be the prevalent strains for the upcoming season. Influenza B is prevalent and is affecting many more children this year than in the past, the B strain that they chose to include in the vaccine is not very effective. The strain they chose for H1N1 is nearly 100% effective. H1N1 is a much more serious strain than B.

When 'they' put out a flu shot, they are simply using educated guesses as to which flu strain(s) will be the most prevalent. They were incorrect this year. In fact, they're wrong more than they're right. The vaccine contains 3-4 different strains.

Do you have inside info or just assuming that'll happen? I'd be shocked to see it come to that. The Asian parks make sense as they're at the mercy of the respective governments/majority ownership. Japan especially is just being very careful with this because them losing the Olympics will be catastrophic from a societal standpoint as well as economically.
Another member posted new CEO Chapek is in discussion on future of DisneylandParis. Regarding DisneylandHK, there are 3 facilities being built right next to the HK theme park to house coronavirus patients. Slim chance Hong Kong will open anytime soon.

According to the CDC, the flu shot for the B/Victoria strain wasn't as effective as it was for H1N1.

From the website:

"For 2019-2020, trivalent (three-component) vaccines are recommended to contain:
  • A/Brisbane/02/2018 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus (updated)
  • A/Kansas/14/2017 (H3N2)-like virus (updated)
  • B/Colorado/06/2017-like (Victoria lineage) virus
Quadrivalent (four-component) vaccines, which protect against a second lineage of B viruses, are recommended to contain:
  • the three recommended viruses above, plus B/et/3073/2013-like (Yamagata lineage) virus."
In addition, the website stated, "However, the influenza B/Victoria and A(H3N2) viruses that have been tested show some reduced similarity to the vaccine viruses."

Firstly, I went to school in Florida. We only closed if a Hurricane was going to hit and usually only got notice the day before if that was the choice.
Not getting ahead of myself at all. I said The State of California is dramatic. The state of California. They would be the first to give in to any frenzy if it is all it is. I was commenting on the fact that the State of California declared a State of Emergency. I did not make that up.

I live in California and I don't know what you mean by "the State of California is dramatic". And no, California is not in a state of emergency. Some cities in California are, which only means they are preparing for the event of the virus becoming a problem. We are not all running around in circles screaming about this virus. Check your facts please.

Governor Newsom said in his press conference yesterday there are currently no plans to declare a statewide emergency. He did, though, state California will expand testing and is working with the CDC to do so.
