I believe they think it came from a bat.
From a bat (or possibly a snake - read that in a scientific article, but the cold/warm blood part has them stumped), then through camels and civets, where it became transmissible to humans.

ETA: All three are sold as food sources in China.

The flu is caused by influenza viruses, not coronaviruses. While the absolute number of people who get the flu each year is higher, the concern is over the higher percentage who require hospitalization and die.

The mortality rate of COVID-19 is higher than the flu, but it's still quite small (SARS was far more deadly) -- and in reality, it's likely much smaller than the current reports. There are undoubtedly numerous people who were/are infected but never realized they had anything more than a cold, and thus they aren't counted among the infected.

Schools in Japan have an unexpected closure for a month due to the coronavirus. So far, the 2020 Olympic games in Japan this summer is still on.. Can one imagine if all USA schools were closed for a month??

I can imagine US schools closed for *two* months! Every year!!

In fact, that's why the flu and cold cycle follow the school year, where we have our yearly incubation and cross contamination of every new mutation of the viruses in snot-nosed petri dishes slobbering over one another. By the time we hit the cold months, the spread is pandemic. And by Spring, it's run it course and those already infected are now immune to reinfection.

That's why it's a false belief that the Coronavirus will abate in the warmer weather. It hasn't run amok in schools this past year. By May, if this isn't contained (and likely it won't), it will be peak corona-flu season .

Over and over and over again, studies show temperature has no effect on "catching a cold". Seasonal weather affects human behavior, and human behavior affects vectors of infection.

And people who sell off their stock are dumb. Sell low and buy high! When the Great Recession hit, I held on to my stocks and they were back and higher a few years later. And this isn't going to be that bad.

I had bought plane tickets for Hong kong disneyland 10 months ago, made reservartions ect , had a private day of tours all paid and planeed and was suppose to go this Saturday through Wednesday but the tour company cancelled my tour, and disney is closed. So I am not going . Sucks though because the Airline I was using HONG KONG EXPRESS wont refund my money or reschedule the flight. Got my money back from everything else but the Hong Kong Express wont refund. I don think Ill ever go to Hong Kong now unless I get a free flight.
I'm sure your travel insurance will reimburse you.

This has been a HORRIBLE year for sickness where we are. Tons of kids out from school with super bad colds, coughs, sore throats. Our boys and I were sick twice and hubby was sick 3 times...just since mid-December.

Something teachers hate is when schools up North have a snow day. It just lengthens the school year even longer when the missed school days gets added to the last days of classes in May or June.

They've started school earlier the last few years where we are. Used to always be after Labor day, but it's been last week of August the past few years.

It’s almost a certain it’s in the US already. It’s been revealed it is eight miles from where I live in the UK. Panic time? No.
Can you please document the downfall of humanity in multiple angles with source audio (if it comes to that)?

I've had people ask if I was going to cancel an upcoming Disney trip. Ya, nah. Unless things get really terrible then I'm still going.

If the parks are open, there's definitely no reason to cancel a trip.

Call me naive but I suspect Japan and China didn't close schools nationwide because of hype and fearmongering by tabloid newspaper editors.
just a quick FYI , from Japan, Schools are being closed two weeks early. Spring break was going to start in roughly two weeks. Its not really correct to say School was cancelled for a month. Students are still being given homework and if they dont understand it they can call the teacher who still has to come to the school to help them.

Unfortunately it's an issue of global mass media in which getting eyes to see you generates money. Thus, hysteria is big revenue. Is this disease a problem? Yes. Does it pose a significant threat to individuals with high risks to pulmonary disease? Yes. Is it the apocalypse? No. But if the media and the political hacks whip everyone into a frenzy, it could unnecessarily push all of us into a massive recession and a disruption of economies to the point we're struggling to keep supplies moving. Essentially, the globe is facing a new, highly contagious flu with potentially more serious symptoms that came out of China... but we're also facing a potential mass panic that exponentially increases hardship without any benefit.
Yeah, but this isn’t nothing. The bigger hit to US could come NEXT fall/winter. Americans have no experience being told they can’t travel, can’t go to work, can’t go to school, etc.
