It is (roughly) South-North, although at the place of Niagara Falls, it flows East-West...

Tennessee is bordered by Mississippi, Alabama, Geogia, North Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, and Arkansas


Missouri is bordered by Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma


both of them are bordered by 8 different states.
