Went to Disney today with a friend so he could pick up his seasonal pass, and decided to take some pics of Everest and the cell phone tower at AK. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my camera to MK so all I have are Everest pics.

Great pics! Thanks!

Glad to see they're finally trying to hide those un-Disney cell towers. I hope they do that to all of the ones on property. So depressing to see those from the parks.

Glad you all enjoyed them! I'll try and get more on my next few trips that I go on, cause by the looks of things we should be seeing more and more rock work being put on with most of the framework in place.

Thanks for the great photos! :sohappy:

Everest is really coming along. I'm very excited for this one. Even though its not even half done with rockwork, I'm already impressed with the level of detail, size and scope of this project. Its going to look fantastic when its done.

I'm glad to see they are "themeing" the cell phone tower to a tree. I had actually thought they should do that when the towers first started popping up around WDW as I had seen cell phone towers in which they attempted to disguise them as a tree on a drive up to NYC a few years ago. Let's just say it wasn't very convincing though (the pole was painted brown and then just the very, very top had some obvious fake branches). What they've done to AK's cell phone tower looks much better so far.

How does seeing a cell phone tower depress you? Were your parents killed by a cell phone tower? Surely it's not just the fact that there is a cell phone tower, now is it?

I'm willing to bet that you have your cell phone with you every second you are in a Disney theme park. Do you find yourself depressing as well? Would you not complain if you had no cell service while you were walking around the park? How do you expect to have cell phone service without a cell tower?

And don't tell me you don't care about the service because you're "at Disney!!!1!"... What someone tried to call you over something important? Imagine if your brother tried to call you while you were at a Disney theme park to tell you that your parents had just been killed by a cell phone tower, but he couldn't reach you because there were no cell phone towers near you "to preserve the magic"... Why, that's not magic- it's tragic!

Montu, forgive me for saying so, but I don't think edwardtc said anything drastic that needed a "dressing down" from you. Edwardtc was simply making an aside comment. He wasn't posting some manifesto against cell towers. I'm sure he is very happy the towers provide cell service as we all are. He merely said they were unattractive. That's all.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Stop being Mr. Know-it-all!

The fact is that this is just like how Disney should not, and for the most part does not build large outdoor, unthemed roller coasters. Building the cell towers is fine, but having them visible and very obvious is not. This is Disney it should be an escape from reality, yes your cell phone should still work but you should not know how it is working. Disney seems to have realized this now. While they did put up several visible towers they are in the process of trying to hide these towers. This can also be seen on the roof of RnRC. the facade of the building is being raised to look more like a soundstage, but at the same time this will hide the repeaters and other cell communication equipment being installed on the roof. And on a side note the recent installation of sever cell towers has little to do with the guests but rather replacing and enhancing Disney’s internal communication system.

WOW, someone needs a serious NAP!

1) YOU LOSE, I do not take a cell phone to the parks. I'm there to escape reality 100%. I take it on the trip, for the emergency reasons you explained, but I leave it in the room while we go park-hopping. If someone dies, I'll find out when I check my voice mail. If I took it to the park, I'd have to turn it on and off 1,000 times a day, every time I went into an attraction, otherwise I'd be one of the a$$holes that answer them on the ride/during the show.

2) They're "depressing" because they're not part of the show. Where have you been? Why did Walt buy half of Florida? Because he hated that you could see the interstate and a Denny's from the DL park! We ALL go to the MK or other WDW parks because it's a world of fantasy. We don't want to see roads, or cars, or CELL TOWERS, or fast food joints, or anything else that's not part of the show.

3) Sure, commincation devices and infrasturcture are needed to keep the massive complex operational, but so are roads and sewer treatment plants and cooling towers and garages......and we don't see ANY of those from inside the parks. Imagineers have spent timeless hours designing the parks so that you see EXACTLY what they want you to see. Main Street buildings are sized just so you don't see the land beyond them, or the parking lot right behind them. Those original imagineers would roll in their graves if they put up a cell tower right outside the MK, ruining all the efforts they put in years ago. It's a lot easier to disguise a cell tower buy simply putting its 3 cells on the roof of buildings (RnRC)- where they blend in (see any metropolitan high-rise building's roof). And if that's not an option, situate them so that they're not visible inside the parks - sure it might take a few more calculations and a slightly more powerful repeater, but it can be done.

Anyway, I try not to get beligerant on here, but this one just got to me - because it was just a bunch of unnecessary ignorance. Everyone on these boards understands the "show" idea and "theming" and knows exactly why it is depressing to see a Cell Tower from a fantasy park. Learn when and when not to speak please - take a clue from Mark Twain ("It's best to keep your mouth shut and remain stupid, than to open it and remove all doubt!")

Also, will this one have any inverts, loops or corkscrews? I'm looking forward to riding it, unless it has any of those. I have SEVERE motion sickness and can barely even ride Space Mountain :hurl: . If it turns me upside down, I'm screwed. Anyone know?

No loops, or inverts. It does have nice backwards portion though!!

I don't know if the backwards portion will make you sick or not. Depending on if you have a mental fear of rollerocasters or a sensitive equalibrium, the backwards portion may or may not have an effect on you.
