Everest Path Closed During Previews?

Most people are logical enough to realize a CM or AP preview and not be bothered by it.

With an AP preview, you can buy an AP :)

Others, are the usual not-so-friendlies and will complain about anything.

well the reason why this is going on for several days is because it's training for the everest cast. its getting them ready for the anual pass opening. And they are working out bugs in the system. I will say this. The cue line isn't big enough to handle the load it will get when it opens. expect the line to back up past the painted bus.

I'm surprised to hear that they didn't build a big enough queue for this attraction. They are usually pretty good with estimating how much queue they will need based on the ride's capacity and then create additional overflow queue somewhere nearby for really busy times. From the sounds of it, they may want to consider building an overflow queue somewhere between the Fastpass building and the new restroom buildings. I'm not sure what is there, but right now it just looks like vegetation and could be a good place for some makeshift switchbacks. At the very least they should try to avoid the line from circling too far down the pathway between the main part of Asia and Everest.

They still technically have a little over 2 months to address these things though before the grand opening.

Poles with holes in the ground or poles with weighted bases?

The holes means that's the planned soft queue (almost all rides have hard queue and then soft "overflow" queue - called soft because it's made from ropes and goes up and down on a whim) but if it was weighted poles (Turtle Talk for example) it means they weren't expecting such a line.

Help with Process

I am leaving on Friday to attend the AP preview. How exactly does the whole porcess work? I saw that the entire road to and from EE is closed off to guest of the preview only. Do you have to show your pass, or is your pass scanned again to gain access? Also I read that you need to scan you pass to get your FP and at that time you will receive your "free gift". What if you don't want a FP for this ride? I heard to queue area is worth the wait. Do you still get the free gift? I am so confused on how the whole process goes. If someone could explain it to me I would be sooo grateful. Reading everyone's posts makes it sound like you need to show your pass 5 times before gaining access to the ride. HELP!!!!;)

My guess (so it may work diffrent) is that it will be like the CM preview. Show your pass 2 times to get into area. The gift and fastpass area was split up.
They scanned the id for the CM gift. I would do both queues. Both are set up nice. Two stories.

That's exactly why I think they should be holding these things AFTER the park closes, not before....that way you wouldn't have all these normal park guests disappointed because they couldn't ride while thousands of other people are (Universal held AP Previews for ROTM after park closing and even had a few other rides in the area open, which was great....too bad Disney can't do the same).

Why do that? This is an indirect way of trying to get people to become either DVC members or AP holders...:D

So, wait. They WILL have fastpasses up and running and available for use? That's kind of weird. Will they work in traditional fastpass fashion? Stick in the ticket and come back later? does it count as a normal fastpass against your ticket (I mean: if I'm holding a fast pass for EE, can I get a fastpass for Dinosaur?)

I, too, am REALLY confused about how this is going to work. If someone could just give a detailed play by play of how the CM previews have worked, I would be eternally grateful.

Thank God I'm not the only one. I don't feel so bad now. A play by play would be nice. Now why would they scan your ticket for the gift??? That's odd?? Another stupid question. What if you don't want the pin?

The CM previews have both the Standby and Fastpass lines in operation. You can either walk right into the Standby line, or you can go to one of the Fastpass machines and come back later (just like at any other attraction).

You enter the Fastpass Return line as you would once the attraction opens. The Standby line and Fastpass Distribution are set up a bit differently. They have these entrances set up far to the left, just behind the Fastpass machines. About half of the Fastpass machines are set up to distribute Fastpasses. The other half are set up to print vouchers for the free gift. As you pass by those machines in the Standby line, a CM puts your ID/ticket in and then gives you the voucher that comes out. If you already got one earlier, you can just walk past the machines. After you ride, you go to a counter in the gift shop and exchange the voucher for the gift. You can also get your voucher when you go to get a Fastpass.

Here's an overhead layout of the area. The red lines are ropes or buildings. The blue lines are the short construction walls.

This is how it was set up when I went. I wouldn't be surprised if they set it up differently for the AP/DVC previews.

Thank you so much!

But two questions:

1. Can you snag a fastpass and then hop into the stand-by line?

2. Can you hold the EE fastpass and a fastpass for another ride at the same time?

1.- Yes. It's just like any other attraction. You're free to enjoy it however you like.

2.- I don't know if the Fastpass machines are tied in with the network yet. There were some issues yesterday. The machines were printing tickets that said to return between "ZZZZZZZZ" and 2:00am or something ridiculous like that. CMs just started handing them out after that. :)

Okay, So if I rush to EE first thing when the park opens, I'm likely to get a fast pass and a prime spot on one of the first trains?

I am a LOT less confused now. Thanks again!
