Were they distributing FastPasses? Or just had the queue open?

The holes means that's the planned soft queue (almost all rides have hard queue and then soft "overflow" queue - called soft because it's made from ropes and goes up and down on a whim) but if it was weighted poles (Turtle Talk for example) it means they weren't expecting such a line.
splashtest said:I am leaving on Friday to attend the AP preview. How exactly does the whole porcess work? I saw that the entire road to and from EE is closed off to guest of the preview only. Do you have to show your pass, or is your pass scanned again to gain access? Also I read that you need to scan you pass to get your FP and at that time you will receive your "free gift". What if you don't want a FP for this ride? I heard to queue area is worth the wait. Do you still get the free gift? I am so confused on how the whole process goes. If someone could explain it to me I would be sooo grateful. Reading everyone's posts makes it sound like you need to show your pass 5 times before gaining access to the ride. HELP!!!!![]()

MrNonacho said:The CM previews have both the Standby and Fastpass lines in operation. You can either walk right into the Standby line, or you can go to one of the Fastpass machines and come back later (just like at any other attraction).
You enter the Fastpass Return line as you would once the attraction opens. The Standby line and Fastpass Distribution are set up a bit differently. They have these entrances set up far to the left, just behind the Fastpass machines. About half of the Fastpass machines are set up to distribute Fastpasses. The other half are set up to print vouchers for the free gift. As you pass by those machines in the Standby line, a CM puts your ID/ticket in and then gives you the voucher that comes out. If you already got one earlier, you can just walk past the machines. After you ride, you go to a counter in the gift shop and exchange the voucher for the gift. You can also get your voucher when you go to get a Fastpass.
Here's an overhead layout of the area. The red lines are ropes or buildings. The blue lines are the short construction walls.
This is how it was set up when I went. I wouldn't be surprised if they set it up differently for the AP/DVC previews.

But two questions:
1. Can you snag a fastpass and then hop into the stand-by line?
2. Can you hold the EE fastpass and a fastpass for another ride at the same time?
MrNonacho said:1.- Yes. It's just like any other attraction. You're free to enjoy it however you like.
2.- I don't know if the Fastpass machines are tied in with the network yet. There were some issues yesterday. The machines were printing tickets that said to return between "ZZZZZZZZ" and 2:00am or something ridiculous like that. CMs just started handing them out after that.![]()
Pongo said:Okay, So if I rush to EE first thing when the park opens, I'm likely to get a fast pass and a prime spot on one of the first trains?
MrNonacho said:You bet!
