EVEREST News... talked with a Construction Worker

Okay, I didn't personally talk with the construction worker. This is taken from Empress Room's trip report post she made. However, I felt that this news is worthy of a new thread.

So, here's the news...
<!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: postbit_onlinestatus -->
Spoke to a construction worker at EE on Saturday. He claims that EE will open earlier than 2006 despite the imagineering changes and edits that are taking place on a nearly daily basis. According to the construction worker (hey, a guy in a hard hat who appeared to be a supervisor of sorts) Disney has made a number of significant imagineering and engineering modifications to EE in response to Universal's Mummy and these changes will put "EE is a complete league and class by itself. The Mummy can't touch it." Take it for what it's worth.
I think that's great news, and that's why I posted it in a new thread.

Also, if anyone wants to see the original trip report, it can be found here:

Thanks again for the news Empress Room!

Wasn't Mummy more hype than anything...I thought people were a bit let down by the attraction...I've heard its good, but not AS good as they advertised it (I personally haven't been on RotM so I couldn't say)....

Nevertheless...I suppose changes while construction was progressing were to be expected with EE...I just hope the changes are of the good kind and not of the bad kind (such as cutbacks).....

Interesting tidbit of info...

Well, generally I've seen positive reviews about the Floridian version. It's the Californian version that had bad reviews. Again, this is generally speaking. Of course some were disappointed but most weren't from what I've read.

I'm a hardcore Disney fan through and through, but The Mummy was incredible. Its a different kind of ride, not a Disney kind of ride, but really great. Its such an intense sensory overload, when its done, you don't know what happened. As good as anything Disney has ever built.

The mummy is a good ride. I think alot of rides now are overhyped by our expectations and wants. The main complaints about the mummy is that it is too short (due to being built into an existing building) and that some of the AA still have bugs in them. Some have a problem with the ending.

I think rides similar to the mummy will start popping up. As it contains the feel of a dark ride, some AA, a few smaller thrills, and some unexpected movements/changes in direction. Hopefully they will continue to improve these rides and keep a balance of thrills and theming.

You are very welcome. One small point of clarification, however, it should be "This is taken from Empress Room's trip report post HE made..." :-)

I had the same problem the other day Empress Room. LOL!!

There are a lot of ambiguous names on this site, so it is hard to tell gender simply based on name alone. I personally thought you were a female as well so Familyman is not alone there. Sorry! :hammer:However it would be recommended for people to view someones profile page if they are unsure about these things, it lists gender there.

I just returned from Disney and also went over to Universal to ride the Mummy. As with most new rides at either Universal or Disney, the hype tends to exceed the actual experience. None the less, I really, really enjoyed the Mummy. I think it's a taste of great ride technologies and ideas to come. The Mummy is such a unique experience that I can only hope Disney takes a serious look at it and builds off of it. The combination of dark ride, video and coaster is a great combination. Of course not everybody will agree with me on the Mummy just as not everybody will be happy with EE but let's just hope that with each new coming ride, they try and push the envelope just a little bit more each time. :hammer:
Disney and Universal's responses to each others latest and greatest is only going to benefit all of us!! :sohappy:

True: Parts of the attraction have been "tweaked" a bit. Nothing huge, though.

Not as True: Opening well before 2006. I hear work is on schedule for an early 2006 opening.

True: It's gonna eat Mummy's lunch...and I liked Mummy. :D

Mummy is a great ride. Though in comparison to the Universal's hype that appeared in their own press reports, and not just hype from fan sites which is really where most the hype for Everest is coming from, it was an initial disappointment. Unlike the press reports for Mummy, there were no animatronic warrior Mummy that jumped on the ride vehicles "using Mars rover technology" like they said, the fire ceiling, while still cool, was much higher above the vehicles than the "inches above riders heads" as they said (although honestly, I never believed they would set a fire only inches away), the ride experience doesn't change from ride to ride like they said (unless you count that some effects work on some trips and not on others), to the hype of it being the most detailed thrill ride in history (Splash, often considered a "thrill" ride is much more detailed, as is Mummy's similar counterpart at Disney...the Indiana Jones Adventure at DL),etc.

Don't believe the hype and Mummy delivered a great attraction. One of the better at Universal, imo. Though in terms of tombs and curses and such, I'd take Indiana Jones Adventure at DL over Mummy any day.

Can't wait to see what Everest brings us though....especially if they are "tweaking" parts to try and insure its a huge success. :) If the inside can look as good as the outside is starting to appear, I have no doubts it will be great.

Yes

Alright I post seldom on this board but read it usually 4 or 5 times a day so I felt it time to post on the topic of EE. I think the story of EE is much more elaborate then the Mummy and I for one am becoming more and more excited.

This attraction I can already tell is going to be amazing and Lee thank you for the post it assures me of my thoughts that this attraction will be stellar.

Happy this is going instead of JTTCOTE.

Thanks,
Kyle

It's good to see the Healthy competition back in action. As long as it doesn't lead to people comparing Disney and Universal directly, I'll be happy.

It's just too bad that I can't experience EE, or really any of the new stuff comin' out for that matter, maybe Soarin', if I am lucky.

Oh dear... I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to confuse you. I think I saw Empress and was thinking of empress like a queen...

Sorry about that. My mistake. :(

No offense taken, Family Man. Empress Room is (actually was) a place, not a person. It was the equivalent of Victoria & Albert's on the Empress Lilly steamboat at Pleasure Island before they turned the boat into Fulton's. It was, at the time, my wife's and my favorite restaurant on Disney property.

As to The Mummy, I rode it in July. It's an excellent attraction. Having said that, it's not memorable. It doesn't have the Disney attention to detail and is entirely too short without a proper ending. Its effects are first-rate, but the audioanitromic "mummy" is a little sluggish and the "cockroach room" a bit campy and trite. The ride is fast and provides a nice thrill. I cannot help but think that Disney would have taken that theme and done even more with it, which makes me even more excited about EE.

Hmm... I don't know about that... I still like having the Disney name on the Pixar films... I mean I see your point, and I'm not a big fan of the stuff Dreamworks puts out. I guess either way, I'll be happy. :)
