Ever gone to Disney and skipped the Parks entirely?

No. I mean I love the Disney resorts. They are well themed and relaxing with great pools and the dining is fun, but I wouldn't even visit Orlando if it weren't for the theme parks. If I lived close by, maybe, but I still think I would hit a beach or mountain resort before I would hit an Orlando resort.

Part of the Crazy Club...we went for 4 days, a few years ago, and just enjoyed the resorts, mini-golf, shopping, and restaurants. DH was going to run the marathon, his fourth at Disney, but had an injury in December. We went anyway and enjoyed our trip; very relaxing.

As I research and find more and more great restaurants/bars/activities outside of the main parks but still on disney property, I wonder if people have ever stayed on Disney property, skipped the parks and just enjoyed the hotels and the other things in the Disney-sphere?

Between the pools, bars, restaurants, etc - this has to happen more than I realize, right??
Many of times. We have a p's and use them very much, but sometimes we go for a few days and just hang out . Nothing more relaxed than sitting at the pool, having a beverage, wandering aimlessly around the resort.Believe me that there is plenty to do at the world without going to a park.Resort hopping is great, lunch and dinner at plenty of different places, I recommend everyone to try it.

No. Ever go to a Mexican restaurant and eat nothing but chips?

Yes. But there was heavy drinking involved.

And so it goes with Disney World.

If I were a local, sure, I'd probably do this. But on vacation? I'd want to visit *a* park, be it Disney or Uni. If there ever comes a day I go to Orlando "just because," it may be time to step outside the bubble and try something new.

My aunt did a trip like that once. Although, I think she was going to Florida for another reason. But she did stay a couple extra days at a disney hotel and just resort hopped and went to Downtown Disney. I don't know if I could ever go all the way down there, stay at Disney, and not visit a park. But, if it was a situation like my aunt, where I had a different reason to go down there, but just wanted to get some of that Disney magic in, I could see myself doing that.

I could, however, also see myself getting to the point where the parks are less of a focus and plan a couple days where I don't go to the parks during my vacation.

Never even thought about it, but if you are staying at a deluxe resort I can see how you could do it. I could walk around the Epcot resorts all day probably and never get bored. Never been to GF but we have eaten at the contemporary a few times and seems as if they have a lot to offer also. However, if I'm the close to MK I couldn't see myself not going.

My family is local and so yes, we stay at disney resorts at least 3-4 times a year without venturing into the parks. Of course, we also got to the parks 10-20 times a year, so it's not a big deal for us.

It makes no sense to me, but I am sure some folks do.

It seems like an utter waste when it comes to value, as there are far prettier, more relaxing places that are cheaper to stay at and actually have some amount of luxury/amenities. Even in just the Orlando area, though, unless you want to go to theme parks, it baffles me why someone would pick Orlando anyway - landlocked, and not a particularly pleasant place in general once you are outside of WDW/UO areas.

Agree, I skipped a day to Downtown disney and cooldown.. but a week??? o_O

or going to Paris and only eat McDonalds??

On the June trip (7 days) we are taking Wednesday off, DTD and some sight seeing on property. We do have Fantasmic FPs that night and since we are staying at the BW we may or may not go to see it, I think we will. But overall a day off from the parks.

Going to Disney World and skipping the theme parks entirely is like going to Las Vegas and not going inside a casino. Fun can still be had, but you're bypassing the reason they exist in the first place. Without the theme parks, Disney World couldn't exist. No one is going to spend that kind of money to sunbath next to a man-made lake in the middle of nowhere. :)

Yes I have been to Disney and not gone to the theme parks. It was great, we did a lot of stuff we normally don't get to do. Golf, swim, rent boats, shop, went horseback riding, rode the monorail and stopped off at each monorail hotel. Went over to AKL and saw the animals. Did a dinner show. My boys did the pirate adventure and a character meal. All sorts of things to do at Disney other than theme parks ;)

I have done it with my parents for their anniversary, we went around the resorts, the Boardwalk, etc. It was a lovely time! Although I missed the parks deeply I knew I would be back at sometime. (Our annual passes expired a few months before this trip). Also, on June 6 - 8 for my friend's 16th birthday we are staying at Saratoga Springs and spending a few days at the pool and the resorts. She does this every month! So yes I have gone to Disney and skipped the parks. Not by choice, but I have a vacation planned with the parks in July so it's all good.

Amazing how what "makes no sense" to some spells relaxation to others. We've done it, resort hopping, arcades, great food options, shopping, bowling, mini-golf, boat rides, etc. We got a crazy low rate on the resort, didn't need a car-thank you Disney transportation, and loved every minute of it. We actually laughed about the people we heard going to and coming from the parks all stressed out. Sure we missed the parks a little but we'd do it again.
