Quick question:

Can you have an escape wedding (less than 18 guests) and a Wishes reception?

When I get married, it's going to be at Disney and it would be a small affair but I can't afford the whole wishes wedding but would love to have a big fancy reception (thinking Living Seas or Ariel's). Anyone know?

I don't see why not. They may end up treating it more as a private function, and less of a wedding reception, but I would imagine they will work with you.

disney weddings can help you book private rooms like ariels, napa and sonama rooms at cali grill, etc, however they are subject to room mins, which are the same as with wishes weddings. you are prob best ringing them. (this was orginally what i was going to do, but then i had to upgrade to a wishes wedding as my no's went over 20. cali grill was $2500 min spend on food and bev, and meals are approx $100pp for 5 courses for the napa room after 4pm.

I had an Escape wedding in March. If you have a certain place in mind and it is an escape wedding, have your planner give you some ideas on what can be done. We had our reception at Ohana's and then watched the fireworks on the beach. You could always just have the reception at one of the restaurants. Our planner helped us with a cocktail hour in one of the grand floridian ballrooms before our dinner later in the evening. All in all I would speak with your planner and they can help you decide the best course of action for exactly what you want. There will be a minimum for some places.

If you do have an Escape wedding and get Kathleen as your planner, she is AWESOME!!!

For anybody here who has had an escape wedding, what can you realistically expect to pay for the whole thing (not including any separate meals, receptions, etc.)?

I had an Escape wedding in March. The price is determined by the location you pick to get married. Its $5500 for wedding pavillion and $4500 for all other locations. With the wedding pavillion you get to have your cake cutting on Commanders Terrace in the Grand Floridian. Its very pretty and overlooks the beach and lake. Any extra flowers are very reasonable priced. I chose the wedding pavillion and added bridesmaid, corsages, and 2 boutineres and petals for flower girls basket, champagne and soda. They even supplied the ring bearers pillow. We also added Magic Kingdom photo session at $1000. Well worth every penny for Magic Kingdom pictures. I recommend this as a must to any Disney bride. We also added Epcot on for an extra $300. We got well more than $300 worth.

With an Escape wedding, so much is included. The cake, limo, photography, flowers, annual pass, planner, personal wedding album, etc. With the wishes its all separate. Trying to add things with a wishes wedding would have put us near $20,000. With wishes, most things have a minimum price.

The total for just our wedding with extra photos, flowers and beverages for cake cutting was around $7000. The photography alone was well worth. We had a great photographer. If you add on the reception at Ohana's for 20 people it pushed it to $7500. It would have cost 3x the amount if we had it at home.

Hope this helps.:)

Jen2009, your post helps me a LOT! Hubby and I really, really are starting to push towards the vow renewal more and more. Ideally, we want to do it at Disney. The problem is cost. We could do the smaller, Escape package and just have our boys there + maybe our parents (my only hesitation there is MY parents, I'd much rather just have his and leave mine at home ). I'd rather be able to have our sons, parents, siblings, nieces, & nephews there but that would push our total number of guests to 22 which is too many. I have no intention of ever spending the big bucks that it would take to do the custom package. Hhmmm. I wonder how horribly tacky it would be to have the ceremony with just adults and the reception with everyone??? I just wish there was a way to make it doable to have the whole family there. That would be a dream come true for us. Guess I need to buy a couple MegaMillions tickets. :ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

We had a total of 22 people. I do not know if other planners do this, but she did not count the 2 children we had under the age of 3. If you are 1 over they "may" let it slide. Our guest count kept changing and we ended up with 22 and she let it slide. You can have 18 guests plus the 2 of you. If you have questions you can always call 1-321-939-4610. They will be more than willing to help you answer your questions. The team there is great. Congratulations on your vow renewal!!!! We will be doing the same in 10 years at Disney again. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions.:)

I wouldn't dare try to eek by some of the nieces & nephews...currently all but 1 range from 6 to 16. :p I guess I should write down my questions and give Disney a call. We really do want to do this at Disney so I better get crackin' with it. Thanks for you help!
