Epcot's World Showcase- A Different Vision?

Current events have brought to attention that the world is vastly different now than it was even when the World Showcase was designed. There is much more interaction and codependence between countries than ever before, due to having much more access. I think going forward, the focus of the World Showcase needs to be educating guests about history and different cultures, but also promoting worldwide peace and unity. I think they have a platform to teach adults and children alike, and I hope they don't squander it.

That being said, I'm not against having characters in the pavillions if it is done tastefully, and isn't done in place of teaching real facts. Also, it helps if the characters in question are actually from said country, and not just a fictional country that is kind of similar.
I agree. The world is a smaller place and nations are more connected in both good and bad ways. Overall, I'm wondering where both Epcot and WS are going.

A futuristic theme park of tomorrow and a celebration of the world as one.
That is a terrific goal! Still, I have to wonder how that will be done. Will they continue adding IPs to the WS, and if so will that change it to more of a world-themed amusement park? And, even more pressing, how will they bring the future back in to Epcot? Right now, Epcot has seemed to lost or at least fallen behind that goal.

Love the park and I'm clinging to the wonder it used to inspire, but that's getting more and more difficult.

I think maybe Disney should look at It's A Small World and take some inspiration from that ride, could bring up some great things for World Showcase.

There's plans afoot. But it won't be EPCOT Center again.
As long as the plans entail a futuristic Future World, and an expansion of World Showcase, then I'll be fine. I've never been opposed to characters in Epcot, as long as they serve a purpose and are used to educate. It can work well if tastefully done (which we haven't necessarily seen yet in Epcot). That being said, I am hoping the hints of TRON, Inside Out, and more rides in WS all turn out to be true.

World Showcase is the prettiest thing ever build. The only thing that wasn't perfect were the countries and rides left unbuild.

World Fantasyland is inferior. A paradoxical product of a TWDC that has expanded so much its most rewarding strategy is to creatively retract into brand vending.

Just wondering if the F&W and F&G festivals would be as popular is they continue to add IPs that are generally aimed at kids to the area. I have always thought of WS as appealing more to adults- more of a 'grown up' park that is wonderful to visit at night. I'd hate to see that change.

Right now we have rides in Mexico and Norway. The rest are just shows. The best show is the American one by far... although I do like O Canada.

Would it bother me if Disney based attractions showed up at every country? No, not really. As I said in another thread, as long as it's done tastefully and embraces the culture of that country. Some examples of what can be used:
China - Mulan
Germany - Snow White or Rapunzel
Italy - Pinocchio
France - Ratatouille, Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aristocats
UK - Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood, The Great Mouse Detective, Sword and the Stone, The Adventures of Mr. Toad, 101 Dalmatians, Peter Pan

As an example, a ride where you follow Remy throughout Paris (or France in general). Going through tight areas, through landscapes, into restaurants showing off French cuisine (and the smells) and maybe top it off with a scene like this:

  • Italy had a gondola ride planned once. I'd still like to see that happen, but I think they've used up all of their space.
  • B&tB, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella are all represented heavily at other parks. Aristocats isn't well known enough anymore to get a ride. Hunchback, though it's one of my favorites, lost it's show at HS years ago, and I don't see anything like it coming back to the parks. So Ratatouille it is. Fingers crossed, if it crosses the ocean, we'll get the Disney Studios Paris ride.
  • I don't want Snow White or Rapunzel in Germany. That's a ride that I think should be distinctively German, and Tangled definitely didn't take place in Germany. I'd prefer the river cruise through Germany, but I'd take a dark Grimm Brothers boat ride too.
  • As for China, it will probably get a Mulan attraction of some sort. I don't know if it would be boat-based or not, but I could see it coming.
Since Japan and Germany have ride space available right now (especially Germany), I think they would get an update before any of these. Putting gondolas in front of Italy would probably be the fastest thing to make, but man would that capacity be low.

For Japan, I think they need to focus on a non-IP themed attraction. Germany on the other hand a Grimm Brothers themed dark ride might work out well.

Took a bit of searching, but if you've ever wondered why Epcot is heading in the IP direction, the post below I quoted from another thread is a good indicator: (emphasis mine)
The 3 Caballeros ride is not so attractive. This attraction needs some updates. Not necessarily a "Coco Ride" but some improvements with a Coco overlay could be great. This is the best Disney Pixar of all times in Mexico and it pays tribute to a very important part of the Mexican culture. Nothing more logical... I keep thinking that something will happen with Coco and the Gran Fiesta Tour attraction. Epcot needs more popular IPs especially the World Showcase just like they did with Frozen and the future Ratatouille ride. So i think Mary Poppins or Coco are logical there.
