EPCOT Unleashes two spectacular, previously unseen pyro effects in 'Luminous the Symphony of Us'

Luminous-the-Symphony-of-Us_Full_54321.jpg

I hate to ask this(we don't need TDO's Eyes looking at my question)but I'm curious. How are the other Barges protected from the 360 Shells? We don't need another Barge Fire.........

Second question, where's the ground shell at the first and last second of Luminous launched from?
If this show fails, the final offer is Guardians of the Galaxy Awesome Mix-Tape Nighttime Spectacular, so....
I'm sure this site would just love that in WSL..........Rollseyes!

I’m not convinced this will be a long running show like illuminations was

The barges seem too close where the lighting effects look jumbled at times. The music and flow feels like something is missing to me but that may change over time. Too much narration as well. They really needed to have fire effects somewhere. I ended up liking harmonious more than I thought I would after many views and not liking it at all at first so who knows where this will end up. Time will tell.

Regardless I still think an amazing Epcot fireworks show would use some music from illuminations and have new fireworks and effects tech as we see today…but they want to make Epcot like magic kingdom where they can

I agree the barges are all clustered together with the exception of the smaller barges, and I think the slanted barges are odd. I’m guessing they designed them that way to hide the center barge? Overall the Illuminations and Harm layout was better and several flat barges would have been the way to go with a larger center barge.

There are ways they can do a huge WoC fountain display without a platform, but they keep avoiding to do it for some reason.

There might be an intersection of people on the Disney Theme Park Venn Diagram who love theme parks and who love Disney cartoons, but to target people only in that intersection for Disney Theme Parks is what alienates the others.

I think the majority of Walt Disney World visitors fall into this intersection.

Personally, although I loved Disney cartoons growing up (I currently don't go out of my way to watch new Disney or even Pixar films; I'm not subscribed to Disney+), it was EPCOT that made me love Disney World s a kid. Magic Kingdom was fine, and I really liked the original Disney-MGM theme (and Animal Kingdom is phenomenal, but I was older when it opened), but EPCOT was the masterpiece that blew me away, and I wish an updated version of the original existed instead of the current park with Frozen, Guardians, etc.

But I'm pretty sure that I am in the minority there, and probably a relatively small minority. I think most WDW visitors want to see Disney characters, hear Disney songs, etc. at all the parks, for better or worse.

I guess that explains why the pyro felt like Illuminations and why that piece felt like a successor to RoE. It's so close to a perfect show, just get Pinar back and let her do whatever she wants with the soundtrack.

I’ve been watching the show recordings quite a bit this week, and am currently on my flight down there right now to spend the night at Epcot.

I realized while listening that “Loss” section actually feels like a very beautiful duet. The “When She Loved Me” and “Remember Me” seem to be singing to each other. One remembering who they’ve lost and another asking someone to remember them so their memory is not lost. Maybe that was on purpose or I’m projecting on the score but I find that quite beautiful

They also can’t be wasting money designing some that last 2 years or less
Disneyland might have a word to say about that:). They have done..... Though usually DL firework shows do last 3 to 5 years.

Together Forever 2018 replaced the three year DL Forever
Mickeys Mix Magic replaces that in 2019
But it's another 4 years before Wonderous.

Soundtracks good but if Gavin Greenaway rescored the show we’d never care to see another show again. Lunar Toprak is very generic with her music. Greenaway can write an entire soundtrack with no IP and keep the show going not everyone can do that.

Unpopular idea I’m sure but what if for a special event perhaps they brought back Harmonious? But obviously just the soundtrack with the new infrastructure. I don’t see why they couldn’t. Yes it would need to be re programmed, but not impossible.
They should play the soundtrack and light up the water at Dis Springs for something fun. It never screamed Epcot, but the soundtrack had energy!

I think the main difference is that new castle shows don't (necessarily) involve a lot of new/expensive hardware. So changing to a new show just builds upon the infrastructure already in place.

That said, if you can largely use the same hardware, then updating Luminous to a different show in 2-3 years just to "keep it fresh" is more viable. Though at WDW they tend to run things longer regardless due to the different guest dynamics. A lot of guests for WDW are more infrequent and would miss shows altogether if they are switched out every 2-3 years.

Don’t forget the barge that went on fire was a WW3 barge very clustered together and all launchers and main platform were on the same level leaving nowhere for debris to go. They also had no fountains, I don’t think any fallout will stand a chance. Like ROE all the pyro is raised up and plenty of places for the fallout to land without building up on the launch pad. Harmonious launch pad also faced the center longways which also allowed more buildup.

True but in Epcot they’ve been building and destroying very expensive hardware as well

Even the VOL sing some Disney songs now as part of their show, something I don't remember them doing years ago.

Unfortunate how EPCOT today can't go 5 minutes without making Disney movie references.

It would be like if they stuck the Minions into every ride at Universal.

Couple cool overheads of Luminous from Bioreconstruct

This really highlights how the show was designed to be seen equally all around the lagoon.

Of course, we all know the rather apparent directional bias Harmonious had with the Stargated.

But even RoE had issues: As big as the earth-sphere was, it really wasn't big enough to really make out the projections on it, unless you were in the cordoned off Fastpass viewing area in Showcase Plaza. From there, the sphere was closest to a shore line and you could make out what was happening on the sphere. And it seemed to me that the show was meant to be seen from that direction.

Illuminous makes itself large enough to be seen from all shorelines.

Tho, with so much happening on the lagoon surface, I wonder if people three or four people deep can see all that. Time will tell...
