Hey, i have just returned from my two week Holiday in Orlando (my third time). While i was there i notist that quite a few of the Light Bulbs that outline the "Epcot" sign on the Wand had actually blown and not been replaced. Now all the other times i have been to Florida, i have never notist really any Bulbs blown. Could this be an indication that the Wand is really coming down?

It's been like that for a few months. I remember a rumor that someone got injured, like one of the maitenance people. It's supposed to be worked on by rappeling off of SSE or the wand itself, it's designed that way.

I think when i counted the other day ther were atleast 20 bulbs burnt out one just one side.

Perhaps the replacement bulbs are made by someone other than Sylvania and Siemens refuses to support the competition.

I wouldn't think much of this...I've seen bulbs burned out on Main Street in the MK, too, and those aren't hard to change; they just don't do it. Same with the neon at MGM (especially The Great Movie Ride's marquee, which is almost never completely working). Even the Grand Floridian ("flagship" resort?) has trim lights burned out. Very tacky, but at least the wand is coming down. It's just laziness at the MK and GF.

Maybe it's a countdown.

When the final bulb burns out, the wand will transform into a crane and will then lift itself out of EPCOT Center.

Or maybe I am watching too many Transformers teasers :D

Was just at EPCOT last night and noticed there are alot more than 20 bulbs out now on the side facing the parking lot. I was say probably 50 or better now.

I saw this the other night and was gonna make a topic about it too LOL.Perhaps this means that they are not going to fix them because the wand is coming down?
I hope so.Interesringly enough, the other side of the wand that faces the park looked perfect(even if it is the wand).:ROFLOL:

I think they only had the 100w bulbs in stock... needed the 75w or they'd blow a fuse.

Seriously, if its coming down in or after October as rumored based on budgeting, that's a long time of looking shabby...

Should they send a worker to change a single bulb whenever one burns out?

It is a lot more difficult and costly to send people on a structure like that than some seem to realize. I would be willing to bet that no one here wants to pay the increase in ticket or concession costs at WDW that would be required to send workers out anytime a bulb went out. Even the lights on the roofs at the GF would require fall protection etc... to change out. It is not a simple matter of changing the bulb, getting to them is most of the problem.

From a looks standpoint, I agree any bulbs not working look bad. But being realistic they cannot be expected to every bulb as soon as they go out.

From what I understand, WDW used to have a schedule of when light bulbs were put in, and how long they were expected to last. Then they would change them BEFORE they would blow-out. That way, the place would always look perfect.

I realize that you can't be 100% perfect, but to have that many lights out should be considered unacceptable by WDW management.

Of course, I'm just hoping it means the thing will be gone soon...
