At least be original with your complaint thread. "I liked Epcot better in the past" has been done.

Where is the illogical conclusion drawn from irrelevant snippets of information? Where is the unobtainable expectations justified by overly nostalgic memories? Where is the philosophical breakdown of the shrubbery placement?

The choice of plant life in Future World West shows a fundamental misunderstanding and mismanagement of Disney Horticulture in bringing awareness to the future of agro-management techniques. While going for a shallow, aesthetically pleasing feel, Katy Moss Warner, Director of Disney’s Horticulture and Environmental Initiatives, has lost site of the true meaning of Epcot and should be replaced immediately.

The problem here is that there are a few people that live and breathe these forums. They read every single solitary post. I don't. I only visit occasionally. I don't feel any need to go searching to see if there's a previous post on the same topic I'm thinking about. If this actually bothers you, I think that you probably need to get out more.

You do realize that the topics I referred to at the time were on the front page of the very forum you were posting on?

It's not so much "living and breathing" these forums as it is simple observation. Perhaps those skills of yours are OldAndBusted?

Katy Moss Warner was a brilliant horticulturist and sadly she departed from Disney after 24 years in 2000. She went on to become the President of the American Horticultural Society. And ironically enough this is a post that desrves discussion.

Disney once saught out brilliant and passionate people to maintain all aspects of their parks. She was responsible for much of the greenery throughout all 4 parks and maintained a standard for over 700 employees in which she hand picked for their own passion and enthusiasm. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia to bring us what was once a world class environment. Sadly much of her work has been led to deteriorate.

I'm definitely a classic EPCOT fan. There isn't one pavilion in Future World that I like better now than I did 10-15 years ago. With that being said, I feel like World Showcase is definitely better now than it was during the classic EPCOT days. Better films in China and Canada, better and more food offerings. Or maybe it's just that back then, I couldn't drink...and now I can.

I miss World of Motion and the original Imagination. I remember the "wow" feeling I had after riding them. Of course, I was 14 or so at the time. Would I still have the "wow" after riding today?

Horizons and Cranium Command were great also. But I do like Nemo, Ellen, and Soarin today.

SE with Jeremy Irons was the best. I listen to him on my ipod while riding thru.

I'm with you OldAndBusted. I'm so tired of people being sorely treated and called out for posting something that's already been discussed. It takes someone more time to complain about a topic then to just simply ignore it. I don't care what the topic is...with the amount of members on here it will always be new (in some form or fashion) to somebody out there. And since when do you have to please other members by having to satisfy what they consider to be proper Disney intellect? :brick:

If Disney would just rename Future World to Discovery World or something along those lines, I think that would silence most of the complaints about it not being future-oriented anymore.

I won't go on about many of the things I miss from Future World that are gone....but I do wonder (and doubt) if young people visiting EPCOT for the first time feel that same sense of amazement and wonder that Future World brought when it first opened!! It really did have a 'Future World' feel. At the time, the 'World Key' system was ahead of it's time (real video phones) and the stuff in Communicore was fascinating - for the time. I think that as fast as we are advancing in technology it will always be hard for Disney to spend a lot of money keeping up.....by the time they put something 'futuristic' in place it may already become established in the real world. I still think that UOE has great potential....I'm done with the Ellen thing. I loved Horizons but I also love Mission Space. The older I get the more I really enjoy World Showcase....timeless. I would love a couple more countries - they don't necessarily have to have a thrill ride but I like the idea of Switzerland and an east coast Matterhorn! (uh oh....here we go....)

So are you in agreement with me that since Ms. Warner left, the position has been handed down multiple times and recently replaced by Ms. Hedge(really), who is not the President of horticulture for WDW but all of Disney? In 2000 before Ms. Warner left she employed over 700 specialists just for WDW and the 4 parks. Now the website lists 675 employees under Ms. Hedge for all the North American P&Rs.

Some things are better - World Showcase being one. Some things have been lost. I think more important than any specific ride or attraction is the loss of the vision and the aesthetic that was once EPCOT.

I've wondered if my memory of past times might be influencing my opinion, and have watched ride videos to get a current perspective, and I can honestly say I do feel Horizons was a great ride that with some updates and modifications, including current technologies, could still be a relevant part of today's Future World. I also think JII was better. Imagination is what brings discovery and advancement. It is a critical aspect and deserves a truly great attraction. The current Imagination incarnation is so lacking and beneath (what should be) Disney standards, I don't even know where to begin listing it's shortcomings. We enjoy TT and MS, but also enjoyed WOM and I think it would have a place in today's FW.

I guess my general feeling would be that I don't understand why something has to be closed to make way for something new. Why can't the best and the worthy classics be kept and well maintained while adding to the parks? Certainly they have demonstrated this works - and works very well - at Disneyland.

I think the entrance plaza was much better before. The addition of the tombstones, like the hat at DHS, was not a good decision.

I have such dreamlike and fantastic memories of EPCOT when it was true to the concept. Over the years I think they may have been somewhat exagerated, but still left me dreaming and hoping of how exciting tomorrow could be. Concepts and the environment were spot on but I would combine some of the current rides, test track, soarin etc...

THE POINT, reimagine the dream and innovation of tommorow to reflect the E.P.C.O.T. theme.
