I have always wondered why epcot has the same operating hours all year long (9am - 9pm) except for independance day/christmas. Its just something thats bothered me of why they cant stay open till like 10pm - 12am more.

My guess is that it works for what they've decided is the Guest demand. It's closed at 9pm for as long as I've been going to WDW on a regular basis, but from what I've heard it used to close later than that years ago.

Apart from those holiday late closures, the only real variation is that closing time is extended to 9:30pm between Thanksgiving and New Years as a necessity with fitting 3 performances of Candlelight Processional into the evening.

Good to know! It's been over a year since I was there and with Test Track, Soarin, etc., it makes more sense to leave some of the area open.

About a year ago (I think) they changed it so FW closes the same time as WS. However, certain attractions will close early....

They only changed how they were reporting the operating hours. In terms of park operations and what was open and closed between 7 and 9 there was no change at all.

Before it was "Future World closes at 7 but many attractions are open until 9".
Now it's "Future World is open until 9 but some attractions close at 7".

Remember the days when it (the whole park) was regularly open until 10pm or later??

Unfortunately, no, I don't... :(
And I've been going to WDW on a fairly regular basis since 1998... (I don't recall the park hours on the 2 or 3 visits before then)

As much as I would love for it to open later, there isn't enough demand for it. Even on Extra Magic Hour nights the park dies out fairly quickly. This summer in fact Epcot has gone from 2 Evening Magic Hours to just 1 per week. I don't see them extending the hours anytime soon except for holiday times.

I've always wondered about that too. You'd think that with all of the restaurants and bars in World Showcase that they would keep the park open until at least 11/11:30pm on the weekends. Maybe push IllumiNations back to 9:45/10pm and people would have a reason to stay later. I find it odd when I go to EPCOT on a Friday/Saturday night and after the park closes, there is still a good couple of hours in the night to do something fun. I guess its just my way of thinking though.

Thats actually the only reason I could think of why it's closed earlier than MK or DHS. I figure there is a lot more service people needed for all the bars and restaurants and that closing after 9 might would require much more staff, and they still need to clean etc when done. At MK you can close the restaurants but still have a few carts, at Epcot, if you close the restaurants there is not much to offer guests!
