Epcot name. Does it fit?

So I was going through some pictures of Epcot and I got to thinking...

I know that Epcot stands for "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow".
But what I don't get is how this name compliments the actual park.

We have a Future World but the attractions are more historical then predictions, not so much based on the future. Aside from Innoventions, which attempts at looking toward the future, here are some examples of what confuses me...

1-Universe of Energy - Predominately about the history of energy.
2-Wonders of Life - Education about the human body.
3-Mission Space - Space travel, ok to Mars, but primarily based on what we have today.
4-Living Seas - Soon to be Nemoland :lookaroun Teaches about our seas. A stretch being the potential to live on the Ocean bottom. That theme seems less apparent these days.
5-Figment Debakle - Not really sure on this one...

Land, to me, is the only spot that complements the Epcot name.
And then we have all the little countries....
I just don't see how much of this goes with an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow...

Any comments? Come on, edumakate me... :D

Epcot no longer stands for anything.
Epcot is the name of the park.
It isn't an acronym anymore when referring to WDW's second theme park.

Thats why they went through all the name changes, with E.P.C.O.T and EPCOT Center and EPCOT and finally Epcot today.

Aahhh I see.
So, the name is meaningless?
I suppose as they drifted further from the original concepts of E.P.C.O.T, changing the name entirely would be a lost effort.
Much like the meaning of Disney MGM Studios? :veryconfu

That is what I heard. I think it looks better without all the periods.

It's kind of sad to think that the word 'Epcot' truly means nothing.

The park is and should be EPCOT Center. Why? EPCOT is an Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow. It is the first permanent World's Fair that has and will last esentially forever. [Montreal tried this with Expo67, but it eventually failed]...anyhow we in America haven't had a World's Fair since the 1980s. I think the last time north america itself had a world's fair was Expo86.

So needless to say EPCOT, it a unique place because it took the experiment of a world's fair, changed it to make it permanent, it is a prototype in the sense of how America has done it and the Disney Company, it is a community of various pavilions each telling the elements that make up our world, and the community of countires in friendship. Is it futurisitic, maybe in the sense of it may never be done again, and the park has and is a successful park.

"Center" to me shows that the park is or atleast was and should be the center of cultural and futurisitic standing for the disney company and on a global plane.

I never have liked how disney calls their parks...disneyland park, magic kingdom park, disney's this and disney's that.

Blah! LOL

Walt Disney World should consist of: The Magic Kingdom, EPCOT Center, The Disney Studious [no Walt in the name or company name with MGM most likely erased some day] and The Animal Kingdom [not disney's animal kingdom]

I'm surprised that EPCOT Center had so many name changes, in my opinion it should be renamed and rededicated EPCOT Center with a new focus in the 21st century, and get out of the dark and controversial years of "Epcot".

But from your view, I would imagine a better name to be Expo Center or Disney's World Fair. I thought the original concept was based on a self sufficient living community. Not a representation of diverse communities nor historical pavilions educating on the past. Although it takes on the appearence of a World's Fair, I simply still don't understand why, if a World's Fair type park would be named for a different idea that wasn't implemented. So it would appear that Epcot is Epcot today for no other reason than it's what people know.

Kind of makes me wonder about some of Walt Disney's other ideas that he never had the chance to expand apon as well as modern day Disney's direction... :)

Also have to wonder where this all would be if Walt was still here... :)

Don't forget the park changed to Epcot '94 and then to Epcot '95. They were going to change it's name every year, until they realized that was an incredibly stupid idea.

It always gets on my nerves when peopel call it EPCOT or EPCOT Center because it's just Epcot, plain and simple.

Epcot is called Epcot for one very simple reason...marketing. We have all seen the video of Walt talking about his version of Epcot. Walt's vision was never built, a theme park that displayed a smattering of the ideas he expressed in that video was built. But when you show that video just the fact that that park has the same name and a slightly similar ideal gives it credibility enough for it to seem like it was originally Walt's idea. Without that "Walt Disney" connection a park of its type would have never been built.

Of course, if they're verbally calling it EPCOT or Epcot, how can one tell the difference?
