Epcot Money Grab

I'm not really understanding why they are doing this. Why don't they just leave the restaurants open until 11 or even 12 with a normal menu or even a Happy Hour Menu and let people decide how much they want to spend. If they just want a drink great, if they want a full meal ok. Leave it up to the servers to try and up-sale a person just ordering a drink. Why make an event out of 2hrs? I guess if people are willing to pay the $35 and the restaurants stay full during this time then they made the right decision but are there really enough people that just paid for a day at Epcot and maybe a few other overly priced meals that say hey, let's go spend $35 on a drink? I know I would stay later, go and have a $10 drink, look at the menu and decide hmm desert sounds good and then after, decide I want another drink and wham I just spent $35. But, now I'm just going to say, no way am I going to pay for that. When the truth is they could have tricked me into paying $35 if they had just set this up differently.

Simple supply and demand economics, as well as testing concept of a unique experience, and the ability to measure the response. Marketing 101.

They've created a limited supply and a testing timeframe.

Reservations need to be made.

If the concept takes hold and people like it, they can expand.

Leaving all of the restaurants open for 2 extra hours is like throwing a batch of stuff against a wall to see what sticks.

What is unique? Its the same food and drinks you can get during normal hrs, they are not even providing entertainment.

In truth, this is for people who can't abide leaving the "bubble." There's plenty of places to wind down apres parks. I find many of mine on I-Drive and Citywalk. But for those who can't leave the "bubble" (and no P.I. to go to) they now have this option. Because if you want the "bubble," you gotta pay "bubble" prices.

I think it's all to the good. Those who need the "bubble" don't have to go to bed at 9:30 anymore, and there's less people in front of me in line at the places I go. Win, Win.

A park with nothing open but 4 lounges(likely crowded at that), I will be curious how much roaming will be allowed.
The amount of crowding can be adjusted (if they wish) by the number of ADR's offered.

I should be going soon, I will let you know how it is.

Thanks I think if they add a few outside seating options it would be nice, and given how crowded they let other hard ticket events...do not hold your breath on them considering lowering capacity

But do the majority of people know that? I believe most don't. I have walked around World Showcase and barely seen a soul at 10pm on a Saturday night in early December.
I wonder if the massive number of on property accommodations has led to the number of people leaving the park so swiftly? Back in the day, more folks drove themselves and probably wanted to wait for the parking lot to clear, now people just walk out to the Epcot based resorts or wander to the bus stops. May not be that much impact, no way to know for sure.

It's on disneyworld.com, the Disney Parks Blog, Facebook, Disney Dining, it's being promoted. It was even sent to travel agents to tell their clients.

Being able to walk around Epcot after hours is not promoted.

But the majority of people on property on any given day aren't reading the Disney Parks Blog or Disney's FB page. Yes, it's being promoted. But most people won't know about it.

I think this is there to lure in people who don't know any better and the small fringe groups who can't wait to give money to Disney for any and everything.

WS closes at 9. You an make an ADR for 9.

With ADRs for 8:00-9PM for a regular sit down, I think people can figure out they will be exiting WS after closing. I've been there after 10, no EMH. With more people now expected to remain even later, I don't see how Disney can judiciously remove people to solely accommodate the "Epcot After-Hours Wind Down" (hate the name) crowd. An administrator mentioned wristbands, but I think that's to distinguish from those already dining in the restaurant, the 8-9PM ADRs. After all, both crowds will be in the same place at the same time. If they start checking for wristbands on the people lingering outside like a Vegas pool party, people aren't going to respond well.
