Epcot - Japan Construction

For some time now, the back show end of the Japan Pavilion at Epcot has been under construction. It's been far too long to just be a simple paint job or rehab to rotting wood... anybody know what's going on? I do remember reading about an unused show building behind the Japan Pavilion, are they finally putting it to use? Something for the 25th?

ps- Did a search and couldn't find anything on the forums or google... unless I'm blind.

A pretty good chunk of the unused show building is used as the Epcot Engineering construction shops. As far as I know, the rehab is just painting.

I'd love if Meet the World was finally put in. My fingers are always crossed that this might happen someday.

Excuse my naivete...I'm not familiar with this? Can someone let me know (PM or on the board) what this is? Is it similar to Boy Meets World?:p

Meet the World was a Carousel Theatre show designed for the pavilion, to open in 1983. For various reasons it was built but never installed. The show opened in Tokyo Disneyland in 1983.

Before Meet the World, a Circlevision Bullet Train attraction was planned for Japan, and in the early 90`s the Mount Fuji rollercoaster was planned, but conflicts with Fuji Film (the ride sponsor) and Kodak cancelled it. Also planned was an expansion of the pavilion of more shops and a restaurant modelled after the Ginza District of present day Japan.

All of those sound great. It's a shame they were never built. :(

I will hopefully see the show when I go to Tokyo in November. Until then, my mind keeps singing, "Theres a great big beautiful world, shining at the end of every solar system!"

Someone please correct if I am wrong, but I believe that Meet the World is closed. There is an easy to find video on the net of it.

Over a year to paint and put a roof on? :brick: I guess the workers are looking for job security.

It is really hard to beleive that nothing more than a paint job is going on with the Japan pavillion.
