Epcot International Festival of the Arts coming in January 2017

The points being made are not the subject of the festival itself but the year-round festivals, either extending (F&G, F&W) or adding (FOTA). If every day is special, no day is special. Clearly, it's to get added revenue to Epcot because there aren't enough attractions.

Speaking for myself, I enjoy the festivals for what they are when I'm there but do get the point that the year round festivals are becoming if not already overkill.

I agree that they need to add to and fix what is already there, but I don't see any harm in having different festivals throughout the year. It's not like they're running the same festival 365 days a year, and it allows visitor to experience some type of cultural special event without only being able to visit at a specific time of the year. I just never understood the hate for the festivals.

The average person who visits WDW comes for one week every few years. Most big fans come for one week yearly. Who cares if there are special events year-round? It's nice to feel like something special is happening when you visit. Better than a crappy marketing campaign "celebration" about taking pictures.

Like I said, I enjoy the festivals for what they are when I'm there but there is a valid point to having these year round diminishes anything special about them.

I think that as long as each festival feels distinct, it isn't a problem. If they all become Food and Wine with different menus, then I agree. As long as the Art festival is very much focused on art, the Flower and Garden is very much focused on topiaries and stuff, Holidays is vart much focused Christmas stuff, and Food and Wine is the ONLY one where the focus is food, then it's fine.

I understand food is, and should, be included in every festival, but there's a difference between being a feature and the focus.

Due to my jobs at the moment it's impossible for me to get to DW during the spring, summer, fall and beginning of winter. I've been to DW once during the flower and garden festival luckily but, that was almost 7 years ago. I've never been to the food and wine festival which I have always wanted to go to but again due to my jobs, it's not possible right now. Hearing news about something different coming to Epcot during an actual time when I can go to DW is awesome! My girlfriend and I cancelled our planned second park day at AK and switched to Epcot. Hopefully some more news is revealed on this event. I would assume with the food kiosks, snack credits would be accepted just as the F&W festival?o_O

I think this will be awesome. Wondering if I should wait to go to one of the events in early Feb to give the event people a chance to make revisions. Thoughts? When are you going?

Yeah, barring a situation in which kiosks are put in awful places or somehow throw off the entire vibe of World Showcase, I'm cool with this. I think sometimes it's easy to forget that World Showcase was originally based off the center of the EPCOT city, which would essentially be a large entertainment/shopping/dining district, so I never quite minded the critiques some have that "it feels like a big outdoor mall!"...honestly, that was kind of the point, but it was to have obviously been plussed with Disney created attractions and theming. Plus, EPCOT Center was made to be a "permanent World's Fair", so putting more art and what have you on display works in that vein, as well.

Granted, no, it doesn't excuse Disney not investing in Future World, or not keeping other parts of World Showcase up to date, but taken on its own, I actually like the idea of EPCOT being a place that hosts festivals. When I've armchair quarterbacked/Imagineered ideas to fix Innoventions/CommuniCore, an idea I always come back to is having space in them for things like concert performances and art exhibits, so I'm already a bit partial to the idea.

Of course, I usually get down to WDW in August, so I usually miss the big festivals, anyway, but I'm not against the general idea.

I don't mind the festivals. It's that the park has relied on them for so long at the expense of taking care of attractions and adding attractions that most have a problem with, I mean a whole pavilion is now just for the festivals. And while I'm sure demand is high for them, I don't think the park needs to be near year round full of festivals to draw in the crowds (and they keep expanding the days the other festivals are offered). I think it's nice for locals who enjoy the park and the offerings and many plan trips around Food & Wine.

If the festivals weren't there, they'd have to actually see that investment is now needed. JMO.

And it's OK that some don't like them. Some do. That's how the world works.

Any word on the schedule of performances? We'll be there the first weekend and would like to see whatever may be playing at the American Gardens Theater.

"Broadway stars" .... other then Kerry Butler I wouldn't label any of those names as "stars." Yes they were leads in some Disney Broadway productions, but that does not mean they are stars. When I heard stars I was hoping for andra McDonald, Patti Lapone, Kelly O'hara, Danny Berstien, Christian Boryle hell even lesser known stars like Rob McClure or Brian Darcy James. It would be a great opportunity to preview numbers from shows opening in the spring, but reprising Disney theatrical moments seems like a let down.

I thought it was very clear from the original press release that this would be "stars" from Disney theatrical productions. Regardless I don't know why you would expect them to promote other Broadway shows when they themselves have several.
