EPCOT Films

Haha, well after reading this thread, and that imagineers intend to change the film, I contently do not feel so bad for dragging my friend who has never seen the Canada Circle-Vision theatre into it 2 months ago (knowing of course, that it was an utter borefest...but the fact still was there that she's never seen it).

I'd always also remember how, despite the fact that every time we'd go To EPCOT, we ride the Maelstrom...yet only once have we actually bothered to stop and watch the movie of Norway? Once. I mean, i remember it being good and whatnot, but meh. Once.

So i'm happy to hear that they're going to renovate it all. So now i'll have to not only drag my friend back to Canada with the lame scapegoat of "Oh no, don't worry, this time it's different!", but I also get to say that i've sat down to watch the movie after Maelstrom, not once, but TWICE.

When I was at The Cananda Pavillion May 12th, I asked a castmember about a new O-Canada film. While I realize that castmembers aren't the best source for Up-To-Date information, this young man seemed pretty honest and intelligient. He told me that the new canada Movie should arrive around September/October.
Take this info for what it's worth.

Do you remember his name? It was probablly me :)

There are only two guys in the attraction =)

Regarding the updates, is it just the footage that will change, or the audio, too?

I personally would be sorry to say goodbye to that lovely song feautured at the end of O Canada.

I'm sure it's just me, but I would rather they stayed exactly as they are. Part of the appeal for me is that the footage is very 80's  .

I'll be at the World in December, so I guess it'll be all different by then.

I love the China film and watch it every time I go, but somehow I have never seen the France or Canada ones. Maybe this year, but everyone says they're so outdated I might not bother. I occasionally stay and watch the Norway film just to have a nice sit down for a few minutes, but I don't think it's very good. And the American Adventure is, I think, primarily for Americans (whereas the other ones are primarily for people who don't come from those countries) and as such it has very limited appeal for me - I think I may have seen it twice. I would welcome updates to all of the films (which is something that, frankly, they should do every few years anyway).

The French film is not outdated. The filmmakers were cleverly careful not to show anything that could be dated (well, almost anything). They show a Bugatti race instead of modern cars, for example. Chateaux, the Alps, quaint villages and the Eiffel Tower don't really change too much. Last time we saw it the print seemed quite new as well.

The train and train station scenes were painful for me to watch. Come on! we have the fastest train in the world!

I just heard that AA will be down for 4 days on June 18 for the film change out. Canada is still on hold. The footage has already been shot and edited and ready to go, but there is a discussion on the length of the film. It was originally 20 min, but they are thinking it might be too long and talking about shortening it to 12 min.

I hope this isn't true. Have we really become so ADD that we can't handle standing still and watching a movie for 20 minutes? It's irritating enough they already did this to the China Circlevision film; I would hate to see Canada's hacked to pieces, too. New footage is great, reducing its length so Jethro can get to Soarin' in time to use his Fastpass is not.

20 minutes of standing and watching a movie about Canada is too long. I mean really, how many bever and moose do we need to see? I just hope they keep the end song. It's absolutely god awful, and I love every minute of it. Epcot needs to keep SOME cheese. I miss all the old bad music, this is one of the last ones left. Universe of Energy just isn't the same with out it's pre-show and finale songs, tommorow's child is stuck in yesterday,I no longer care to listen to the land, I've not been makin' memories for 10 years, and it's just not fun to be free anymore. Shorter movie, more bad music. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it!

I couldn't disagree more. In fact, I'd rather see the [Norway] movie than ride Maelstrom. When I watch the film I get a feeling for the country and its people. I'd actually argue it's not long enough. [edit]
Personally, I think those who "barrel through" are missing out...but if all they want is cheap thrills, then I suppose they got their fix.
I'm a big fan of the film also; it's very well done for a conceptual and editing standpoint. People who have never seen it should give it a try. That said, I've always thought having the film come after the ride was a mistake. That makes for a correct logical progression (the ride takes us through historical/mythical Norway; then the film shows use current Norway), but in terms of showmanship, it's like a theater putting coming attractions after the feature movie. The setup at Norway is especially bad now that they allow people to just walk through the theater, because it means that post-ride, people are in a queue just the leave the building.

So I think it would have been better to have the film first, as a pre-show.

I'm generally not in favor of shortening the World Showcase films--they're wonderful escapes--but I did make an interesting discovery on my last visit: if you've just gotten off Soarin', "O Canada!" is most definitely too long. :animwink: Panoramic shot after shot of swooping over the Rockies and the trees and the streams and the animals and the people...it was all I could do to hold onto my lunch for another 20 minutes. :hurl:

But I had no choice...no visit to WDW is complete without hearing "Canada (You're a Lifetime Journey)". (Which, if I recall correctly, they are re-recording for the new film, no...? Or will that be slashed and burned in the editing room now?)

Yes beaver and moose is all Canada is.........ignorance AND bad spelling.

Hate to break it to you, the only thing worse than stupid Internet arguments, are people who have nothing better to do with their life than point out spelling errors. My spelling may earn me a C-, but your pointing it out earns you an F. HOWEVER ... since you brought up spelling, allow me to give you a lesson in grammar. Are you aware of what an ellipsis consists of? It's three periods in a row, no more, no less, and clearly not 9. Bad form.
