Epcot Construction

I really hope that Disney does not miss this golden opportunity to refurbish and update their parks. Really !! I cannot believe this could be a money issue. I'm sure Disney is "good for it" if they need a loan altho I'm sure they must have an established account for maintenance. They have always said its hard to work there with the parks open all of the time. But, now here is their big change to take advantage of a bad situation.

It's not a money issue. Likely costing them more not doing some of the work now.

Its a "stay six feet away from other people at all times" issue. Hard to be out and about on a construction site and keep away from every other person at all times. Easier for them to close down than risk the spread of the plague (as that is what this is currently as it is being spread between humans).

Yes essential maintenance to stop things falling apart and keeping animals healthy will be going ahead, but all non-essential tasks are likely stopped.

Disney recently borrowed $6 billion. As of Dec 2019, they were carrying a $38 billion dollar debt load. Disney surely has a debt issue.

Yep but if it was a money issue then some construction such as the castle re-paint wouldn't have been planned or started, we would have seen even further cutbacks anyway. We will see cutbacks in the future. But the current construction freeze is due to the safety of crews, not money.

Disney's debt asca percetage of assets was under 47% as of December while Universal's was at 66%. Disney does not have a debt problem even with the extra 6 billion.

You mean painting blue paint over blue paint? Or white over white? I'm sure all paint has serial numbers. It cant be all that hard to get the same paint. Or maybe sanding off old cracked and peeling paint. Do you need specs for that too?
Yes, because you’re not just dealing with blue and white, and paint is not just paint. Yes, a good contractor is going to know how to deal with different surfaces and the right paints, but there is not always a single answer.

A glowing resume for a maintenance position at the world's most popular tourist destination with high standards and attention to detail for sure.

To be clear, work has stopped. There are minimal personal in the park stopping the parks from falling apart, and even so quite a bit of work will be needed to get what is there already back up to an opening standard.
Will the skeleton crew at the parks be required to run the ride-type attractions periodically to ensure that they are still in good working order? Any type of machinery can suffer if not active for an extended period of time, and I would imagine Disney attractions are no different.

I would imagine so. In all parks, not just Disney.

I for one think it’s better to pause all construction. Sure...things will get finished slower but that not what the shutdown is about, right?
Disney sets a the pace, and others follow. That get tossed around quite a bit. If universal or others are not following right now...Then maybe they should. Its a theme park.....we could all manage if they stay closed or unifinished a bit more

Don’t get me started on Route 4 through Orlando though.
