EPCOT Construction Photos from 1981

Cool photos! :sohappy:

I have a bunch of similar photos taken during the very early stages of construction. I remember riding the monorail over to the Epcot construction site and we weren't allowed to leave the monorail station. We could only look from the station platform and there was very little to see...lots of bulldozers and piles of dirt.

A question and a comment:

First, the comment. I didn't realize that construction happened so close to the opening of Epcot Center. By the looks of it, it doesn't look like Italy's construction was even begun 4 months before the Center opened! Kinda crazy...

And the question: What the heck is Hollywoody's? What does this have to do with Spaceship Earth?

Great photos as always! I too didn't know that Epcot had just started construction so soon to opening day. I love what they have done with that park and can't believe they did it all in such a short amount of time. Also, what is the Hollywoody's? I've never seen that before.

We did the same thing. I think it was the year it opened. You got off the monorial and they had a CM talk to you about the project. SSE was part way covered with the skin. I also think I remember monitors you could look at and see some information. Does that sound right, or did I dream that part?

"This has to be the saddest picture on the entire site."

I still get ticked off that they had to tear down good attractions just to add more. Don't talk to me about needing more guests in Epcot when they rip out favorites.

that pic is sad...

i hated how they couldn't get that down fast and not slow... that structure looks like it shouldn't even be standing...
