Epcot is supposed to be about pushing the limits of technology and showing off the newest ride tech. As much as I love coasters, even the newest ones don't do any of that and don't stray from the basics. I think the closest to a coaster Epcot would ever get would be a Kuka similar to Forbidden Journey. Otherwise, only the newest and the best and most innovative.

Oh please, you are clueless about coasters. As an industry, coaster designers are always pushing the limits.

I'd like to see Test Track go down... unfortunately, I have a hard time imagining a coaster attraction that could be focused on the future and innovation. But for me, TT is just not that interesting anymore. When I was 14 it felt blazing fast... now that I am 27 it's just not there for me anymore.

My opinion pretty much echos what most have already said. I don't think a coaster would fit into the theme of EPCOT. I remember the first time I went to EPCOT and how much I disliked it because it was trying to "educate" me instead of "entertain" me. It quickly became my favorite of all the Disney parks because of that exact same reason.

Test Track is as much thrill as Epcot is going to get, and enough thrill for me. Epcot doesn't need a roller coaster. Its a park based on innovation, not thrill. Don't get me wrong, thrill rides are important, but only as long as they fit a theme. I don't see a roller coaster fitting in Epcot. The sum of all thrills is as close as a roller coaster you are going to get.

Never say never, I think Epcot could get a coaster, but I'm unsure of what it's theme could be. I don't necessarily think it "needs" a coaster, but if they could find a unique way to put one in that can fit all the elements of an experience that Epcot should, then go for it.

With that said, a lot of the thrill rides there don't really "fit," more like work. And slowly but surely, Epcot has been losing it's theme.

Just like to point out, the people here saying a coaster would ruin Epcot, you're in the minority. Most "outsiders" could care less about what Epcot is supposed to stand for. As far as I'm concerned, I don't see a problem with a coaster anymore. They've already dumbed Epcot down to a regular theme park level, what's the harm in adding a coaster?

I for one do not think it will ruin Epcot, I just do not see Disney ever doing it.

I don't either. I just don't see any harm in it. Epcot is so far removed from Walt's original idea, and from what it was on opening day in 1982, honestly, they can't do much more to hurt it. That being said, Epcot is still my 2nd favorite park.

Wasn't there talk of a Mt. Fuji coaster going in the Japan Pavilion ? I think that could be good.

There was talk about a Mt. Fuji Coaster in Japan Pavilion, but it was over 20 years ago at least. The last time a Mt. Fuji Coaster was mentioned was a video called Walt Disney World: Past, Present, and future. That video was shown on the Disney Channel in 1991.

I'd love to see the Fuji coaster happen in Japan but i highly doubt that Epcot will ever get a coaster. It's just not the feeling that Epcot gives off.

I'd say never but I'd love to see the following.

Mr Toad in UK that uses a Wild Mouse system.

Mt Fuji

Generic Temple Coaster Rome.

Never. It goes down to a couple things.

The first thing is Future World does not present itself from a theme standpoint for having a coaster unless there is new Pavilions being added. New Pavilions are not being added anytime soon. Disney only does things with Future World for refurbishments or change rides at Future World if the Pavilion has a sponsor.

The 2nd thing is while World Showcase can present itself for a coaster such as a mountain theme coaster, Disney does not look at putting rides in areas of World Showcase that never had a ride a first place. The last time a ride was being looked at being added in World Showcase that didn't have a ride a first place was Mt. Fiji Coaster in the early 90's. Today's Disney Management isn't the type to look at adding rides to World showcase. They view World Showcase for live entertainment, shopping, and food. They update films if the country or sponsor is willing to pay or replacing a current ride in World Showcase for that matter.

Pretty sure never is the right answer. Even that old Project Gemini "Rainforest Rollercoaster" would be better suited to AK than The Land pavillion.

World showcase could use another ride, one that's hopefully in a new country as well. But as far as rollercoasters go, I think that would be a tough sell.

Excuse me? As an industrial designer who has worked around coaster designers, I'm certain I know more than most people on here. Think about the ride tech Disney has innovated at Epcot. Do you see any other parks using a centrifuge to simulate a shuttle launch? Do you see other parks creating simulators like Soarin'? No, you don't. But how many parks have added coasters similar to RnRC? Plenty. Coaster designers push the limits with how people are positioned when they ride. Even the newest coasters like the wingriders are just moving people to the sides of the cars. They're still following the same track and the same layout. They can't innovate a completely new ride experience. That's what I'm talking about. Any company in any industry tries to push the limits of what they can do, but there is a degree of difference between coaster innovations and theme park ride innovations.

Lol, well something needs to go there. I have an annual pass to the parks & i hardley ever go there, in fact I don't go there unless I wanna Test Track, which I leave right after that lol.

Never. Any Thrill Rides that come to Epcot should be something a bit more than just a simple roller coaster. Besides, there's enough to look at in Epcot's skyline that a hulking coaster or show building just wouldn't look good.

Seriously? You only go into EPCOT to ride test track? :eek:It's a good ride, but you are missing SO much by not seeing the rest of the park, especially if you have an AP. Heck, even if you just go in for the food! I'm just flabbergasted!

To the OP, another vote goes in for never. EPCOT is just not that type of park and I can't see how having a coaster would benefit. Spruce up future world a little bit and I think the park would be darn near perfect!

Agreed. EPCOT has so much to offer that it doesn't need a coaster right now, or ever, really.
